Job Description
The Head of Sales for Radius Insurance will lead the strategic and operational growth of our UK insurance sales function. You’ll drive business performance across both SME and Enterprise segments, overseeing the full end-to-end sales cycle, from lead generation through to onboarding.
You'll be responsible for growing a new desk-based lead generation team and directly managing sales/broking teams covering customer segments like taxi/courier, fleets and HGVs and a non-motor team who focus on property, liability and a range of other specialist covers. These teams who receive a constant flow of qualified customer leads from other Radius divisions including Fuel, Telematics, Energy and Telco. You will also work with our Account Executives to drive sales of larger, Enterprise clients across the UK.
In addition, you will also support the development of strong insurer relationships, embedding a data- and KPI-driven culture and ensuring excellence in compliance, quality, and training. This is a high-impact, growth-focused role with responsibility for aligning diverse teams under one model to deliver consistent results.
Sales Leadership & Strategy
* Lead and deliver on ambitious sales growth targets across the UK insurance division.
* Maintain personal involvement in key SME and Enterprise deals from a sales, process and technical perspective
* Develop and embed a single operating model across multiple sales teams with varying KPIs.
* Own end-to-end sales processes including prospecting, lead qualification, conversion and onboarding using the Acturis system
Lead Generation & Marketing Integration
* Establish and scale a new lead generation team to support pipeline growth across all customer segments. This team will work with existing customer/prospect data and inbound customer referrals from other Radius divisions as cross-selling insurance into the existing UK base of >160K customers is a key growth strategy
* Work closely with the marketing team to maximise lead flow from digital channels (including quote & buy online) via a range of targeted campaigns (email, SMS, Outbound, WhatsApp etc)
* Work with marketing on building out our website and online presence including quote & buy journeys, lead forms and portals.
* Lead the partnership strategy to develop 3rd party relationships (Appointed Reps and/or Introducers) to drive additional insurance sales across key products/segments.
* Own performance and strategy for all lead channels: inbound, outbound, referrals, and partnerships.
Team Management & Development
* Line manage and develop a growing team of 15 (with 3 new hires planned) based in Leeds, Sheffield and Crewe.
* Build and maintain a high-performance culture grounded in accountability and development.
* Drive technical development: training, onboarding, coaching, and induction to ensure strong conversion and a ‘right first time’ culture
Data, Performance & Compliance
* Use MI dashboards and KPIs to manage team and individual performance.
* Champion a quality-first approach, ensuring audit, compliance and governance are embedded in the sales process.
* Support and maintain a customer-centric culture that meets FCA requirements.
* Constantly improve the sales process including use of third party data, additional tools (e.g. FullCircl) and online client solutions including online quotes, payments and portals for clients.
Insurer Relationships
* Work with the Managing Director to strengthen relationships across a panel of 100+ insurers and embed a new placement strategy across the business.
* Build deeper partnerships with Tier 1 insurers, influencing commission structures, pricing, service, claims, training and other support.
* Collaborate with Product and Compliance to align insurer expectations with Radius offerings.
Qualifications
* Proven track record leading sales teams across segments (Micro SME to Enterprise) in the insurance sector or related industries.
* Deep understanding of both commercial motor and non-motor insurance products.
* Hands-on sales experience with a track record of meeting or exceeding targets.
* Experience managing desk-based sales teams with a strong understanding of lead generation.
* Familiarity with managing multiple sales functions with different operating models and KPIs.
* Strong commercial acumen with experience in MI analysis, performance management, and forecasting.
* Experience engaging with insurers and brokers, with a clear understanding of distribution models and tiered relationships
* Willing to ‘roll up your sleeves’ and support the teams on opportunities from process improvements, product/technical support, pricing negotiation with insurers, different client payment options and ongoing training
* Comfortable in a fast-paced, scale-up environment – a strategic thinker who is also execution-focused.
* Strong relationship building skills both internally (with other divisions to drive referral volumes) and with clients
Desirable
* Experience working across multiple insurers and brokers – not necessarily 10+ years, but with broad exposure across products and customer segments
* Familiar with UK regional insurance markets (Crewe, Leeds, Sheffield)and willing to travel across sites to support and develop teams.
* Ability to adapt across various business sizes and products – from volume SME to complex Enterprise.
