Groundsperson - Armagh
Join a dedicated team maintaining parks, playing fields, landscaped areas, and public open spaces across the Borough.
As a key member of the Outdoor Spaces Maintenance Team, you’ll carry out a range of both basic and skilled horticultural tasks — either individually or as part of a team. You'll help ensure our green spaces, sports facilities, play areas, and amenity buildings are kept to a high standard.
About the role:
1. £13.26 per hour
2. Location: Will be required to work across Armagh, Banbridge and Craigavon areas
3. Hours of Work: 37 hours per week (can be flexible)
4. Holiday pay (pro rata)
5. Duration: Fixed Term Contract for 6 months, may be extended
Duties:
6. Carry out horticultural operations, including planting trees, shrubs and plants.
7. Carry out grass cutting, hedge cutting and pruning.
8. Carry out labour associated with soil cultivation, fertiliser spreading, site preparation and constructional labouring.
9. Carry out sports facility maintenance as and when required to include preparation and constructional labouring.
10. Maintain games facilities and areas including spiking, aeration, scarifying, top-dressing, fertilising and also marking of games areas and erection/dismantling of posts.
11. Load, unload and move equipment and materials such as mowers, barrows, plants, soil, fertilisers, horticultural and sundries.
12. Assist the higher graded gardeners with their work.
13. Responsible for opening and closing parks facilities as and when required to include the setting of alarms etc.
14. Maintain the orderly condition of grounds, i.e. sweeping, hoeing, ranking, mowing, edging, removal of litter/rubbish/illegal dumping etc
Criteria:
15. 12 months’ experience in two or more of the following areas: Operating a variety of commercial grass cutting machinery; Amenity horticulture skills; Sports ground maintenance.
16. Ability to work as part of a team;
17. Good communication skills
18. Excellent customer care skills
19. Ability to work on own initiative with minimal supervision
20. Ability to work to deadlines
21. Hold a full current driving licence (valid in the UK) including category B.
