Consultant Gastroenterologist with special interest in ERCP
Job Overview
Betsi Cadwaladr University Health Board is seeking passionate and forward‑thinking Consultant Gastroenterologists to support our expanding Gastroenterology Service. Applicants with a special interest in ERCP are encouraged and will receive professional development support.
The successful candidate will play a pivotal role in developing and transforming the service to become an outstanding patient‑led health board, supporting high‑quality care and compassion. Plans for a Gastrointestinal Bleed Rota and a formal out‑of‑hours Gastrointestinal Bleed Service will be introduced.
Main Responsibilities
* Provide a gastroenterology service with responsibility for prevention and diagnosis.
* Provide inpatient beds in North Wales (base agreed).
* Take responsibility for patients in your charge.
* Undertake professional supervision of junior medical staff.
* Participate in medical education.
* Participate in clinical audit.
* Cover for consultant colleagues’ leave.
* Provide specialty in‑reach during the week.
* Validate outpatient referrals and endoscopy requests.
* Undertake outpatient clinics.
* Participate in formal GI Bleed Service (once established), extending in‑reach to weekend mornings.
* Provide backfill to certain endoscopy lists (see job plan).
* Develop sub‑specialty interests beyond general gastroenterology management.

Qualifications
* GMC Specialist Registration in Gastroenterology and General Medicine or within 6 months of obtaining CCT from date of interview.
* Full MRCP.
* Evidence of training in an appropriate gastroenterology training programme or equivalent.
* Familiarity with NHS systems of care.
* Independently responsible for clinical care of patients.
* Experience in endoscopy, independent at diagnostic and therapeutic OGD and colonoscopy (JAG certified).
* Sub‑specialty interest in ERCP (desirable).
* Higher post‑graduate qualification (desirable).
Professional Experience
* Experience in clinical audit and teaching.
* Ability to apply research outcomes to clinical problems.
* Active commitment to teaching (desirable).
* Evidence of audit participation and design (desirable).
Management and Administrative Experience
* Effective teamwork in multidisciplinary settings.
* Willingness to work within the Health Board and NHS performance framework and targets.
* Management experience (desirable).
