Principal Mechanical Engineer

Salary: £70,000 - £85,000 basic
An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Principal Mechanical Engineer to lead the technical engineering function within a growing offshore and subsea projects environment. This senior role will provide the platform to shape engineering standards, mentor a skilled team, and deliver innovative solutions for trenching assets, subsea vehicles, and vessel equipment.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the conceptual and detailed design of mechanical systems and components for offshore projects.
- Review, approve, and provide technical governance on engineering work from internal teams and subcontractors.
- Perform calculations, simulations, and testing to ensure performance, reliability, and compliance with relevant codes and standards (API, ASME, ISO, DNV).
- Drive continuous improvement and innovation within mechanical engineering processes and practices.
- Manage departmental resources, workloads, and engineering deliverables across live projects, tenders, and studies.
- Provide technical support during installation, commissioning, and operational phases.
About You:
- Degree in Mechanical Engineering (BEng/MEng); Chartered Engineer status desirable.
-Minimum 10 years' experience in mechanical engineering, ideally within offshore or subsea environments.
- Strong background in hydraulic systems and mechanical analysis (stress, fatigue, vibration, thermal).
- Proficient in 3D CAD (SolidWorks/Inventor) and 2D CAD (AutoCAD).
- Proven leadership skills with the ability to manage teams, third-party suppliers, and resources.
- Innovative thinker with excellent problem-solving, communication, and organisational abilities.
