JOB SUMMARY
We are seeking an experienced Operations Manager to join our team in Wales, operating within a high‑security environment. This is a highly visible role with responsibility for ensuring exceptional service delivery to our customer while leading and developing an operational team.
The person in this role will be equally comfortable working directly with the client as they are managing complex day‑to‑day operations. We are looking for strong leadership capability, a customer‑focused mindset, and proven experience within manufacturing, logistics, production, or a similar operational environment.
Given the secure nature of the site, this role would suit an established operations professional looking for a new challenge or an opportunity to apply their expertise in a different industry.
RESPONSIBILITIES:

Work closely with the customer in order to understand fully their requirements and expectations as the Metro Supply Chain operational lead for Spares. Look for opportunities to enhance our offering
Achieve and improve KPIs and SLA requirements
Understand our customer’s issues and drive business improvements to aid resolution
Support, coach and manage the supervisors and direct reports
Recruit train, develop and motivate staff within framework of Job Descriptions, and Competency and Skills Matrix
Plan resources against future capacity requirements
Optimise the utilisation of all assets across the operations
Ensure stock control systems are kept up to date and work with Inventory manager to ensuring inventories are accurate
Work with Senior General Manager, General Manager and Supervisors to ensure H&S management best practice is applied, and investigations and corrective actions are applied rigorously
Support development of MJDI WMS throughout the operation
Identify, analyse and implement operational developments and improvements through tools such as Always Improving and Gemba walks to promote a culture of continuous improvement.
Report any Health and Safety issues (accidents / near misses) as required.
Ensure that we have an informed team and to develop a continuous improvement culture.
Develop relationships throughout the business working with direct reports and counterparts across other sites.
In tandem with the Operations Director, Senior General Manager, General Manager and Finance team produce Business Operating Plans, with the requisite financial plans and budgets, in line with the understood business objectives, to drive costs down and improve the service.
Ensure the implementation of company audit schedules.
Identify areas of risk to the business and develop appropriate contingency plans to reduce the risk to an acceptable level.
Support the objective of Safety in Operations by ensuring H&S management Best Practice is applied, and investigations and corrective actions are applied rigorously.
Attend and support regular reviews with the customer and operational team with focused action driven minutes
Work with the managers within the business to identify and optimise the total Supply Chain Solution offering from Metro Supply Chain to the customer.

EXPERIENCE:
Demonstrable experience within a logistics or manufacturing environment or similar
Experience in MJDI.
Experience of managing external relationships with external agencies/organisations.
Experience within a unionised environment.
Excellent customer service skills, as will be client-facing.
Strong leadership experience with the ability to lead a range of people.
KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS:
SKILLS
Excellent written and oral communication skills.
Advanced Excel skills.
Driving licence – travel between sites is essential.
