About the Role
We are recruiting a committed and experienced SEN Teaching Assistant to support children with complex additional needs at a school in Stoke-on-Trent. This is a full-time, long-term position with the opportunity to become permanent for the right candidate.
You will be working with pupils who have a range of needs including Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) difficulties, Autism Spectrum Condition, and trauma-related behaviours. Many of the children have communication challenges and may display behaviours that require a calm, confident and consistent approach.
Key Responsibilities
Provide one-to-one and small group support to pupils with additional needs
Implement behaviour support strategies and help pupils manage their emotions
Support children with classroom activities, social development and daily routines
Work closely with teachers, SENCOs and external professionals
Contribute to the creation of a positive, supportive and safe learning environment
Where necessary, use de-escalation techniques and physical intervention strategies
What We're Looking For
Strong experience working with children with SEMH, autism and trauma
Confidence in managing challenging behaviour calmly and appropriately
Knowledge of trauma-informed approaches, emotional regulation and behaviour plans
Experience or training in physical intervention (e.g., Team Teach, MAPA, PRICE) preferred
A patient, empathetic, and resilient attitude
Full UK driving licence and access to your own vehicle - essential due to school location and travel requirements
Desirable
Relevant TA qualification (Level 2 or 3)
First Aid or Mental Health First Aid training
Previous experience in PRUs, alternative provisions, or EBD settings
