Navigation Enforcement Technical Officer (Thames)
We are the navigation authority for the non-tidal River Thames and deliver our annual River Thames Regulation and Enforcement Plan published on Gov.UK. The ideal candidate will be a strong communicator with enthusiasm and drive to join our enforcement team to deliver intelligence-led enforcement.
As a Navigation Enforcement Technical Officer you will be trained to Environment Agency Level 2 personal authorisation for collecting or removing evidence; trained to RYA Power Boat Level 2 to helm our boats; and undergo Non-Police Personnel Vetting Level 2 Abbreviated (NPPV2‑A). You will investigate suspected navigation offences, prepare prosecution case files to a high evidential and legal standard, attend court hearings and give evidence. The role is predominately field‑based in the upper reaches of the River above Oxford with occasional work across the Thames.
Experience/skills required:
* Effective approach to regulation and enforcement
* Good time management – working to timelines and reporting on results
* Good written report skills
* Following legal process – working to strict process and timescales
* High levels of communication skills (face to face and written correspondence)
* Working with policy and legislation
Essential:
* Full UK driving licence
* Ability to swim and work near water
