Job Description
Regional Director - Northern Office
Salary: £120K +
Confidential Client (Construction Consultancy)
A leading multi-disciplinary construction consultancy is growing and developing its presence in the North and is seeking an ambitious Regional Director to establish and lead its Northern office. This is a significant opportunity for a senior leader who understands consultancy operations, has commercial strength, and is confident in leading teams and clients.
About the Organisation
The consultancy is a well-established, multi-disciplinary construction consultancy group, founded mid 1990s.
They deliver a full range of professional services including project and programme management, building surveying, quantity surveying and cost consultancy, commercial management, employer’s agent and contract administration, principal-designer (CDM / PDBR) services, design-optimisation and information management. They have a track record of delivering residential, mixed-use and regeneration projects - from inception through planning, design, contract administration, construction, and ongoing asset- and safety-management.
They are team driven and operate through an accredited Quality Management System that ensures consistency, cohesion and high standards across all commissions.
Their fire-engineering, building safety and remediation arm offers services including fire risk appraisals (e.g. FRAEW assessments), fire risk assessments, compartmentation and fire door surveys, fire safety strategies, compliance assessments, building safety cases, remedial project oversight and ongoing asset-management support.
The consultancy works with a wide range of clients: public sector bodies (local authorities, housing associations, registered providers), private developers, house-builders, property owners, and asset managers.
The organisation operates under an ISO 9001 accredited Quality Management System, ensuring robust processes, consistency and high standards across all commissions.
That combination of broad in-house capability, deep sector experience, strong process discipline and client base makes this consultancy well positioned to expand strategically - which is why they are now seeking a Regional Director to launch and lead their Northern office.
The Opportunity
The organisation is investing in the creation of a Northern office and is looking for a Director who can shape, lead and grow this region. The role requires a strong blend of consultancy expertise, business development capability, and leadership excellence. This individual will drive regional growth while ensuring full alignment with the organisation’s culture, values, and quality led processes.
Key Responsibilities
* Establish, lead and develop the Northern office and team
* Drive business development activity to build a strong regional pipeline
* Lead client engagement and uphold high quality service delivery
* Ensure project delivery aligns with established QMS processes and standards
* Provide leadership across all levels, supporting staff development and performance
* Build a strong regional identity that reflects the organisation’s collaborative culture
* Contribute strategically to the ongoing growth of the wider business
Experience and Attributes
* Senior consultancy experience within construction or the built environment
* Strong business development capability with a proven approach to relationship building
* Leadership experience across staff and clients at all levels
* Commercial awareness and the confidence to lead a growing region
* Commitment to personal development, team development and long term business growth
* Collaborative, ambitious and aligned with a quality driven, process focused environment
Technical Experience
The successful candidate will bring a strong technical foundation within the construction consultancy environment, enabling them to lead, support and develop a growing team of surveyors, commercial managers and project managers.
They will have experience aligned to one or more of the organisation’s core service areas, with a clear understanding of how multi-disciplinary teams operate together to deliver complex projects.
This will include:
* Senior-level experience within a construction or property consultancy
* A solid understanding of project delivery from inception through to completion
* Technical familiarity with disciplines such as project management, building surveying, quantity surveying and commercial management
* An appreciation of the role of fire engineering, building safety and CDM or Principal Designer services within modern project delivery
* The ability to provide informed leadership, oversight and guidance to technical teams, without needing to operate in a hands-on delivery role
* Confidence in leading technical discussions with clients and acting as a trusted senior advisor
This role requires a technically credible leader who understands consultancy best practice, can challenge constructively, and can support teams to deliver consistently high standards within a quality-driven, process-led environment.
Growth Plan
As this is a senior leadership appointment, candidates will be expected to present a clear and considered view of their own career progression alongside their approach to growing the Northern region.
As part of the selection process, candidates should be prepared to outline:
* Their personal leadership and career growth ambitions within a consultancy environment
* What they are seeking from this role and how it fits into their longer-term professional development
* Their vision for establishing and developing a successful Northern office
* How they would approach regional business development, market positioning and client growth
* Their leadership philosophy and approach to building, developing and retaining high-performing teams
* How they would align regional growth with established quality systems, processes and culture
This role will suit an individual who sees regional leadership as a strategic step in their career and is motivated by the opportunity to build, lead and influence a growing part of a respected consultancy.
Who the Role Would Suit
This role would suit an established senior leader currently operating at Associate Director or Director level within a construction or property consultancy.
The ideal candidate will have a proven track record of contributing to the growth of a consultancy, both commercially and culturally, and will be motivated by the opportunity to take ownership of a region and shape its future.
Typically, this individual will have:
* Experience leading teams across multiple disciplines within a consultancy environment
* A history of developing people and supporting the career progression of others
* Demonstrable success in business development, including generating opportunities, securing instructions and building lasting client relationships
* Experience playing a meaningful role in the growth or elevation of a business or service line
* The confidence to represent the consultancy at senior level with clients, partners and stakeholders
* The ambition to take the next step in leadership by heading a region and building something of long-term value
This role is well suited to someone who enjoys combining strategic leadership with commercial responsibility and who is ready to take a more influential role in the direction and growth of a consultancy.
