ABOUT YOU
We are seeking a Senior Chemist who holds a degree in Chemical Sciences (or a related scientific discipline) and has extensive experience in the day-to-day operation of a self-sufficient laboratory environment. They possess strong knowledge of laboratory sampling, analysis, and reporting requirements within a gas processing site, ensuring compliance with operational and regulatory standards.
Required skills and experience:
* Degree in chemical sciences or another scientific discipline
* Experience in the day-to-day running of a self-sufficient laboratory
* Knowledge of Laboratory sampling, analysis and reporting requirements for a gas processing site
* Knowledge of ensuring that the requirements of the UKAS Accreditation Standard ISO 17025 are met on a day-to-day basis in a laboratory
* Possess technical expertise to aid site personnel
* Experience of personnel training and continual development
* Ability to provide training to personnel
* Aware of the hazards and safety aspects associated with the site and the online processes.
* Developing COSHH and Risk Assessments
* Develop and raise permits with a good awareness of the permit-to-work system
ABOUT THE OPPORTUNITY
The Senior Chemist is responsible for the day-to-day running of the Terminal Laboratory and provides supervisory support to the Laboratory Management. The Senior Chemist shall be responsible for ensuring that all work carried out by the laboratory personnel conforms to the requirements of the Quality System and to those of Wood and all accreditation bodies and shall act as the UKAS Quality Manager.
Key activities:
* Responsible for ensuring that the requirements in the UKAS Accreditation Standard ISO 17025 are met on a day-to-day basis
* Responsible for the day-to-day running of the SAGE Terminal Laboratory
* Provide training to staff and technical assistance
* Perform sampling, analysis and report results as required and in accordance with procedures
* Responsible for ensuring that all work carried out by the laboratory personnel conforms to the requirements of the Quality System and to those of Wood and all accreditation bodies
* In the absence of the Process Superintendent, the Senior Chemist shall deputise as UKAS Technical Manager
* The continual development, implementation and improvement of the Laboratory policies, procedures and work instructions
* Organise purchases with the site Services Administrator, including requesting quotes, ordering consumables and equipment.
* Assisting in the investigation of accidents, incidents and near-miss reports.
* Develop, document, and deliver Toolbox Talks.
* To raise any questions or queries from staff regarding Health, Safety and the Environment with management
* Intertek iHSE and Intranet systems to be updated with any lab-related near misses and incidents, with close outs to be carried out before required date
* Become familiar with Health Safety & Environmental information issued by the company.
* Report all accidents, incidents and near misses according to SAGE procedures no matter how trivial
* Ensuring that the correct Personal Protective Equipment is worn where required
