Job summary
An opportunity has arisen for one candidate to join a growing, dynamic and forward-thinking Gastroenterology and Hepatology Department at Chelsea & Westminster Foundation Trust. The candidate will join a faculty of 22 consultants working across two hospitals: Chelsea & Westminster Hospital and West Middlesex University Hospital.
The post will be based predominantly at West Middlesex Hospital, with potential collaboration with colleagues at Chelsea, aligning with the department's vision. The appointed individual is expected to uphold the Trust values to deliver high-quality care to patients with liver disease.
The candidate must be a member of the Royal College of Physicians (MRCP) or equivalent, with completed higher specialist training or equivalent in Gastroenterology. A higher medical degree (MD or PhD) is highly desirable.
Applicants must be on the Specialist Register (for Gastroenterology) or within six months of admission if currently in training within the UK.
Main duties of the job
The appointee will work under the new consultant contract, managing patients with gastroenterological diseases at C&W Foundation Trust. Responsibilities include extensive experience in Gastroenterology, managing GI bleeding, and developing specialist interests. The role involves clinics at West Middlesex Hospital, including nutrition and general gastroenterology, with three endoscopy lists weekly and an on-call GI bleed rota (1 in 8). The position is mainly based at WMUH but involves close collaboration with Chelsea colleagues.

Job description
Responsibilities
* Inpatient work: Organisation and supervision of medical management of gastroenterology patients admitted to WMUH, regular consultant-led ward rounds, and managing referrals on other wards, MDTs, and X-ray meetings.
* Outpatient and endoscopy activity: Three outpatient clinics and three endoscopy lists weekly, with specialty clinics for IBD, Hepatology, Food allergy, Cystic fibrosis, Eosinophilic esophagitis, Viral Hepatitis, and Colorectal Cancer Genetics. Participation in weekly departmental meetings.
* On-call activity: Participation in the GI bleed rota at WMUH, supporting a 7-day GI service, including weekend inpatient reviews and endoscopy.
Person Specification
Education and Qualifications: Essential: CCT or within 6 months, accreditation in General Medicine and Gastroenterology, MRCP or equivalent; Desirable: Higher degree (PhD or MD).
Experience: Essential: Broad experience in Internal Medicine and Gastroenterology, teaching, audit/research, and competence in GI endoscopy; Desirable: Experience in GI Physiology, management courses, NHS understanding, and publications.
Skills and Knowledge: Strong communication, leadership, teamwork, and commitment to NHS and Trust targets.
