We are looking to strengthen our Engineering team with a Senior Design Manager based at our Derby regional office with hybrid working available.
You will report directly to the Regional Discipline Lead (RDL) – Design Management and your role will lead projects through their design phases for a portfolio of projects, ensuring cost‑effective, technically compliant, and buildable solutions that meet all stakeholder requirements and programme expectations, in accordance with the project delivery process and engineering design procedures.
Key Responsibilities
* Commit to excellence in Health & Safety (H&S) in design, complying fully with relevant local specifications, codes, rules, regulations and all H&S legislation.
* Identify and manage H&S hazards, ensuring all residual risks are effectively communicated to stakeholders.
* Lead the Design team in delivering responsibilities, focusing on meeting customer requirements and project objectives.
* Accountable for expenditure, driving efficiency and managing overall outturn costs for design by producing deliverables within allocated resource hours and key dates.
* Organise all elements of design, documenting in the Design Management Plan and preparing monthly status update reports as necessary.
* Attend and contribute to all relevant programme, project, and technical meetings.
* Produce technical solutions that outperform on cost while maintaining quality standards and delivery on time.
* Provide technical support during construction, assembly, and commissioning stages where required.
* Ensure all technical work meets correct standards and specifications, following appropriate systems of work and quality assurance.
* Contribute to sustainability targets, particularly by reducing embodied and operational carbon footprints of solutions.
* Communicate and work effectively with partners from other organisations, backgrounds and disciplines, utilizing their knowledge and experience and adding your own.
* Recognise and provide exceptional customer service, both internally and externally with clients, their customers and the public.
* Represent the MWH business and RSK Group in all client contacts and promote the MWH/RSK reputation.
* Maintain a positive and solution‑oriented approach to work, providing open and honest feedback.
* Undertake any other duties, training or hours of work reasonably required and consistent with the responsibility level of this role.
* Present a professional and positive image of MWH Treatment in all internal and external contact, maintaining constructive relationships.
* Take all reasonable steps to ensure appropriate confidentiality.
About You
Essential
* Extensive experience of multi‑disciplinary design management in a design‑build environment.
* Degree in an engineering‑related discipline.
* Chartered Engineer in an engineering‑related discipline or close to achieving this.
* APM Project Fundamentals Qualification.
* Delivery‑driven with the ability to set targets and manage and motivate multi‑disciplinary teams to deliver on time, cost and quality objectives.
* Working knowledge of CDM regulations and construction H&S.
* Extensive experience in large‑scale project delivery.
* Strategic, operational, technical and management skills.
* Good general knowledge of all aspects of water treatment (process, civil and mechanical engineering).
* Ability to present technical proposals clearly, confidently and convincingly.
Desirable
* Working towards or have obtained APM Project Management Qualification.
* Experience working for a global organisation.
* Experience working with remote/dispersed teams.
* Experience in the Water/Wastewater Treatment Industry.
* Ability to embrace collaborative and innovative working.
* Knowledge of BIM procedures and techniques.
