Job overview
The Resuscitation Team are looking for a motivated individual who will play a key role in delivering high quality resuscitation services across the North Bristol Trust sites.
The post holder will primarily teach on resuscitation courses, support the delivery of quality improvement projects and audits within the Resuscitation Team. The post holder will also be required to carry a pager and respond to clinical emergency and cardiac arrest calls across the main Southmead Hospital site to support the Clinical Emergency Team (CET),
The post holder will work within the Corporate Clinical Education Team under the direction of the Deputy Head of Education and Operational Leads for Resuscitation Leads, and link with the extended Nursing, Quality, and Clinical Governance Directorate.
The main duties of this role are to deliver resuscitation training programmes to a multi-professional workforce across the Trust and contribute to the planning and delivery of clinical skills training. The post holder will act as a resuscitation skills expert and promote excellent care to staff and service users, via evidence-based practices.
Main duties of the job
1. Maintaining specialist knowledge in resuscitation and deteriorating patient and provide specialist advice and guidance to the clinical services.
2. Co-ordination, and management of delivery for resuscitation training across the Trust and associated agencies in accordance with the current Resuscitation Council UK guidelines.
3. Lead the delivery of Basic Life Support (BLS) and First Aid training sessions
4. Support the delivery of national courses such as Immediate Life Support (ILS), Advanced Life Support (ALS) and the European Trauma Course (ETC).
5. Assist the Operational Leads for Resuscitation with planning and delivering in situ simulation teaching through live demonstrations, scenario-based learning, and clinical training.
6. Provide education, supervision, and assessment to the Trust’s multi-disciplinary workforce.
7. Provide professional and clinical support/advice, within scope of practice, in all aspects of resuscitation across the Trust and to its associated agencies.
8. To represent the Resuscitation Services Department (RSD) and wider organisation in a professional manner demonstrating and reflecting the values and vision of the organisation.
9. Monitor, develop and improve standards of resuscitation by promoting evidence-based practice and ensuring compliance with national and local guidance, ., NICE, Resuscitation Council UK

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
Clinical
To act as a clinical specialist within the field of resuscitation and in the management of clinical emergencies
Hold clinical emergency pager as a member of the team for in-office hour cardiac arrests, providing expertise.
Respond to resuscitation calls as a supporting member of the team, utilising Policy CG-131.
Provide resuscitation expertise during the attendance of cardiac arrests and clinical emergencies, in accordance with appropriate training.
Responsible for improving clinical care standards and ensuring patients are treated with dignity and respect.
Following Trust Guidance in maintaining appropriate resuscitation skill sets in line with current research and evidence-based practices.
Liaison with multi-disciplinary team on issues related to resuscitation for individual patients, staff and extended wards and divisions.
Provide professional advice and support to staff, relatives, and others during and post exposure to emotional situations in relation to a cardiac arrests, clinical emergencies, and deceased patients.
Although working within a range of broad policies, the post holder will be expected to work autonomously, providing specialist advice in relation to resuscitation. Developing, implementing, and evaluating appropriate plans of interventions, as required.
Education and training
To assist with the delivery of resuscitation training/ assessment throughout the Trust and to all levels of nursing and medical staff as directed by the Operational Lead for Resuscitation
To ensure all resuscitation training provided by the team is in accordance with the latest Resuscitation Council (UK) guidance.
To develop and maintain communication with line managers for key staff groups who require resuscitation training.
Support the strategy for reducing and managing staff who do not attending training.
Provide advice for individual staff and line managers on appropriate level of resuscitation training required for their roles/responsibilities following departmental guidance.
The post holder will have to undertake formal assessments, invigilation, and examination during specific local or nationally accredited courses. Ensuring adequate feedback is given in an appropriate and timely manner. When the standard falls beneath nationally accepted best practice, an improvement plan should be developed and communicated appropriately with the candidate.
Monitor, circulate and support the Trust in the implementation of any changes to Resuscitation Council (UK) guidance. Ensure all changes are incorporated into resuscitation training programmes.
To actively promote, plan and implement the provision of resuscitation training courses for external agencies.
Ensure maximum access to resuscitation training by all Trust staff whilst maintaining minimum disruption to service delivery.
To implement initiatives within resuscitation service for training in line with Health Education England guidance, Trust and Directorate annual plans and objectives and guidance from external agencies, ., NICE, Resuscitation Council (UK).
Utilise bench-marking processes to develop and improve fundamental and essential aspects of resuscitation training and service provision.
To attend and participate in specialty, divisional and Trust meetings as required or indicated by the Operational Lead for Resuscitation.
To assess and develop individual staff performance in line with service requirements.
Develop and maintain effective lines of communication between the resuscitation services department, multi-disciplinary teams, other Trust staff, and internal/external agencies to ensure the provision and delivery of the resuscitation service.
Clinical Governance
Develop and implement new audits and support existing audit programmes. Ensure results and actions plans are communicated throughout the Trust and followed up as indicated.
Development and implementation of resuscitation guidance policies and protocols in line with local and national guidance and in collaboration with Trust Resuscitation Committee.
Support quality improvements such as the ‘Safe to Respond’ programme.
Adhere to Health & Safety regulations, promote staff compliance and ensure annual service risk assessments are completed and acted on.
Comply with fire regulations and implement change when necessary.
Participate in the continuing development of the resuscitation department via the use of formal and informal feedback, using this to drive change and enhance service delivery.
Provision of advice and guidance on provision, purchase, standardisation, and maintenance of resuscitation equipment within the Trust and associated agencies in collaboration with Clinical Equipment Services and Trust Procurement Department.
Monitor, advise and support the checking process for resuscitation equipment throughout the Trust.
Professional
Work in accordance with Code of Professional conduct and scope of professional for personal registration body. Adhere to standards of practice of other relevant agencies both nationally and locally, ., Resuscitation Council (UK).
Promote a positive learning environment for all students and participate in curriculum and course development and assessment of all students undertaking resuscitation training both internally and externally to the Trust.
Act as an ambassador for RSD within the Trust and to external agencies and organisations.
Support the implementation of all trust policies that are linked to resuscitation in collaboration with the Clinical Lead for Resuscitation and Resuscitation Committee.
Create a climate that promotes innovation, development, and management of change.
Remain updated within the area of resuscitation and management of clinical emergencies. Promote and deliver research evidence-based quality care.
To develop and contribute to specialist resuscitation and training/education networks both internally and externally to Trust to promote sharing of good practice.

Essential criteria
10. NMC/HCPC Registered
11. Minimum of 2 years post registration experience in an acute care setting
12. Healthcare Degree (or equivalent)
13. Current Immediate Life Support (ILS) Certificate with the Resuscitation Council UK
14. Evidence of relevant CPD
15. Teaching and/or Mentoring Qualification
Desirable criteria
16. Current Advanced Life Support (ALS) Certificate with Resuscitation Council UK

The successful applicant(s) will normally commence at the minimum of the scale unless they have previous NHS service at the same band. Progression through the scale is by annual increments.
