Locum Consultant in Respiratory Medicine | Surrey and Sussex Healthcare NHS Trust
Role details: Locum consultant in respiratory medicine based at East Surrey Hospital. Rates: £100 - £120 per hour (PAYE). Shifts: 09:00–17:00, Monday to Friday.
Our proposed job plan for the 10Pa job includes: 1 in 8 respiratory on-calls including weekends (9am–8pm on site weekdays and 9am–5pm on site weekends with on‑call availability by phone overnight); 3.5 clinics per week (including general/2-week rule and 2 sleep clinics per week); 1 in 7 acute ward week. Other roles include bronchoscopy and pleural lists, advice and guidance, and referral vetting regularly. 1 admin PA per week.

Main Duties / Responsibilities
* Actively support patients and families; explain diagnoses and treatment options to ensure practical understanding
* Coordinate treatment plans and prescribe treatments as appropriate
* Provide constant monitoring and care for patients
* Communicate with patients and the multidisciplinary team on shared patient decision making
* Work in and, where appropriate, lead a multidisciplinary team
* Assess and prioritise patient requirements, delegating effectively
* Recognise, review, and report changes in a patient’s condition to the team
* Perform administrative tasks such as keeping records of test results, writing prescriptions, providing information to patients, and monitoring treatment plans
* Conduct research to develop and test techniques and equipment to improve procedures and outcomes
* Teach and train junior doctors, medical students, and other team members
Qualifications / Licenses / Certifications
* Essential: GMC registered Doctor (not required to be on Specialist Register)
* Experience at Consultant level or references to support transition to Consultant
* Evidence of stand-alone Right to Work in the UK (visa sponsorship not available for locum roles)
* Pass enhanced DBS background check
