Senior Clinical Scientist (Magnetic Resonance Physics)
The MRI Physics Section at UCLH is seeking a motivated and passionate Senior Clinical Scientist to join our dynamic and growing team.
In this role, you will support the MRI Safety Expert in delivering expert scientific and technical support across a wide range of clinical, safety, and research activities. Youll work closely with radiographers, radiologists, clinicians, researchers and external partners to ensure MRI services are safe, effective, and aligned with best practice. You will contribute to the development and advancement of both clinical services and translational research, making a tangible impact on patient care. You will also take an active role in training the next generation of clinical scientists through the National School of Healthcare Science Scientist Training Scheme, helping to shape the future of the profession.
Main duties of the job
* Support MRI clinical services across key specialities, including Radiology, Neonatology, Fetal Medicine, Proton Beam Therapy and Nuclear Medicine.
* Deliver MRI Safety and Quality Assurance services, provide scientific advice and support clinicians and academic teams in translating innovations into clinical practice.
* Assist the MRI Safety Expert in ensuring MRI services are safe, effective, and aligned with best practice.
* Contribute to the development and advancement of clinical services and translational research.
Person Specification
Knowledge and Qualifications
* 1st or 2nd Honours degree in a Physical Science or equivalent
* State Registration as a Clinical Scientist with the HCPC
* Professional Institute Membership
* PhD degree or equivalent research experience
Scientific & Technical
* Advanced theoretical and technical knowledge in MRI
* Knowledge of quality assurance of MRI equipment
* Knowledge and experience of clinical applications of MRI
* Understanding of relevant national standards, guidelines and legislations relevant to MRI including MHRA, IEC, CEMFAW, Caldicott, GDPR, COSHH and Health & Safety at Work Act
Clinical
* Advanced knowledge of clinical practice and the role of MRI Physics
* Knowledge of relevant anatomy, physiology and pathology
* Good understanding of the hazards and risks of MRI in the clinical environment
* Knowledge and understanding of quality and risk management as they apply to MRI Physics
* Understanding of quality and performance management and their application to MRI Physics
* Knowledge of how to offer effective supervision
* Knowledge of appropriate standard and systems of financial accountability in a public sector organisation
Experience - Scientific and Technical
* Experience of a scientific healthcare environment
* Experience of a variety of computing systems and application packages
* Experience of image acquisition with a clinical scanner
* Experience of image processing techniques
* Experience of quality assurance of clinical MRI equipment
* Experience of at least one programming language used for research (e.g., Python, MATLAB)
