Job Title: Welder
Location: Livingston
Working Hours: 37 hours per week, Monday to Thursday 6am to 2pm, 10pm to 6am, and 2pm to 10pm; Friday 6am to 12.20pm, 6:40pm to 1am, and 12:20 to 6:40pm
Salary: £30,731.94 + shift premium £7,682.99, total £38,414.93
After successful probation: £31,366.65 + shift premium £7,841.66, total £39,208.31
Profile: We are working with a leading manufacturer of Nickel, Titanium, and Steel alloy forgings for aerospace, defence, and energy sectors. A vacancy has arisen for a Welder to join their team in Livingston. This role offers an exciting opportunity for career progression within a modern manufacturing facility.
Responsibilities include:
* Supporting business objectives and operational improvements
* Maintaining quality and customer satisfaction in production
* Ensuring quality, cost, and delivery improvements
* Meeting customer expectations on delivery and quality
* Flexibility within the work area
Role specifics:
* Perform high-standard repairs and fabrication, responding swiftly to plant breakdowns
* Assist with the introduction of new/modified parts, equipment, and tooling
* Maintain health, safety, and housekeeping standards
* Set up and operate Sub arc welding machines, including alignment and adjustments
* Perform weld repairs according to blueprints and procedures
* Select appropriate voltage and power settings
* Inspect welds for adherence to specifications
* Adjust machine setup based on weld size, location, and penetration
* Handle materials such as Titanium, Stainless Steel, Mild Steel, Inconel, and high-carbon steels
* Preheat surfaces as required
* Record work progress digitally
* Possess burning/lancing experience and fabrication skills
* Develop efficient working processes and seek continuous improvement
* Follow established processes, report deviations, and correct issues
* Apply problem-solving skills to manufacturing challenges
* Participate in continuous improvement activities like Lean, TPM, Asset Care, and 6S
* Work towards team performance measures
* Support effective communication within the team
* Identify training needs and assist in training others as a competent trainer
* Undertake additional training aligned with company needs
* Ensure new starters follow maintenance training and update skill matrices
* Maintain team boards and complete necessary administrative tasks
Knowledge & Experience:
* Time-served Welder with MMA, MIG, and Sub Arc welding experience
* Proven high-standard fabrication skills
* Ability to interpret work instructions, drawings, and schematics
* Computer literate
* Comfortable working at heights and in enclosed spaces
* Industry/production experience preferred
* Knowledge of safe working practices
* Excellent communication skills (verbal and written)
