Salary: £25,989 for the first 6 months, rising to £27,252 after 6 months and then £29,064 for the final 12 months of the scheme. (pay award pending)

2 roles available, each covering one of two Housing Needs locality areas: Malton/Selby and Scarborough.
About the Role
We have an exciting opportunity for 2 graduate trainees to join our Housing Needs Team covering locations throughout North Yorkshire from September 2026. If you have a passion to learn and develop a wide range of skills, this may be the role for you. You can apply for more than one locality area by submitting a separate application for each.
The Council’s Housing Needs responsibilities include the management of the Housing Options and Homelessness Teams across the Localities, oversight of the housing options service, and compliance with statutory obligations under the Housing Act 1996 Part 7, Homelessness Reduction Act 2017 and related legislation.
Responsibilities
* Support the Housing Options Manager in delivering an efficient and effective housing needs service
* Assist in reviewing risk assessments for the service
* Assist with HR processes as required
* Manage file administration and perform GDPR data cleansing
* Collect data and respond to FOI/SAR requests
* Update literature, website and intranet content
* Assist in day‑to‑day management of temporary accommodation when required
* Support submission of bids for government funding and grant programmes
* Generate data and reports for homelessness, rough sleeper work and service delivery changes
* Provide low‑level support with clients on North Yorkshire Home Choice applications, benefits assistance and budgeting support for the team
* Test and configure website and IT systems
* Shadow front‑line officers to develop knowledge of Housing Act and Homelessness legislation
* Order stationery and manage post
* Communicate internally and externally
* Attend internal and external partnership meetings where appropriate
