Overview
The successful candidate will be joining an established medical team in the Medicine and Emergency Care Division which is currently expanding and redesigning. The post holder will provide senior decision making support to the emergency medical pathway and to the ongoing provision of safe, personal and effective medical care to acutely medically unwell patients and/or to patients attending Diabetes & Endocrinology clinics. They will work alongside Diabetes & Endocrinology consultants who are available at all times to provide support, but it is expected that the post holder will largely manage their own patient workload.
Responsibilities
The post holder will provide senior decision making support to the emergency medical pathway and to the ongoing provision of safe, personal and effective medical care to acutely medically unwell patients and/or to patients attending Diabetes & Endocrinology clinics. They will work alongside Diabetes & Endocrinology consultants who will be available at all times to provide support if needed, but it is expected that the post holder will largely be able to manage their own patient workload. The job title for the post is “Specialty Doctor in Diabetes & Endocrinology and Medicine specialties”. The post is paid on the Specialty Doctor scale; part-time applicants will be considered. Job plans will be negotiated on an individual annualised basis. Depending on experience, training needs and departmental requirements, time will be allocated for CPD, training, service development, research or individual specialty interests where appropriate. Sub-specialty interests will be discussed and supported where appropriate to the applicant and the service. The post holder will be encouraged to advance their career in Diabetes & Endocrinology and General Medicine and will be supported to pursue the CESR process to gain GMC specialist registration in both specialties. An active SAS mentoring system is available to help develop the candidate’s clinical and non-clinical skills.
This is a new role within the department and workloads will be reviewed regularly to ensure good working conditions. Appropriate time for clinical administration will be included. The post holder is expected to contribute to weekend duties. The post holder will be encouraged to advance their career in Diabetes & Endocrinology and General Medicine and will be supported to pursue the CESR process to gain GMC specialist registration in both specialties. There is an active SAS mentoring system to develop clinical and non-clinical skills.
For entry into the Specialty Doctor grade, applicants must have at least 2 years of experience in Diabetes & Endocrinology outpatients after full registration. They must be able to demonstrate appropriate experience and expertise in dealing with general and complex diabetic & endocrine conditions in outpatient and inpatient settings. They will also participate in unselected acute medical take in General Medicine and be able to work with remote Consultant support if needed.
Qualifications
* Educational Qualifications - Full registration with General Medical Council
* Professional qualifications - MRCP, or evidence of active participation towards MRCP exams
* A higher qualification (e.g., MD or MSc) is desirable
* UK professional registration appropriate to role
