* JOB TITLE: Senior Tooling Engineer
* LOCATION: Bristol, near Temple Meads (BS2 0RA) - This is an office-based position with one day a week working from home
* CONTRACT: Permanent - Full time (Mon-Fri)
* SALARY: Competitive (plus bonus up to 5% annual salary)

THE JOB

The Senior Tooling Engineer specialises in creating tooling solutions for Silicone and PU foam moulding as well as Jigs & Fixtures for new and existing production needs.


The Senior Tooling Engineer is responsible for the development of Tooling Design Solutions to support various processing techniques. They will be responsible for taking part designs from R&D and delivering final production tooling designs to allow volume component manufacture. They will also be responsible for redesign of existing production tooling, revamping tooling standards to reduce production costs, labour time and scrap whilst also researching new tooling concepts.

The Senior Tooling Engineer is responsible for coordinating all tool design work passing through the department. This will entail prioritising design work and ensuring tooling design reviews are conducted in a timely manner, tool manufacture has been agreed and is appropriate, WI’s have been generated by the relevant tooling designer and the Workshop Supervisor is aware of the tooling due in and the expectations on what is required when it arrives.


The role will also be responsible for working with the Engineering Workshop to ensure they have all items required to commission new tools and progress maintenance and repair jobs on the tooling workload, to minimise downtime due to tooling.


MAIN ACCOUNTABILITIES

* Design, develop, and maintain production tooling, jigs, and fixtures.
* Lead CAD design and validation using prototyping and simulation (including mould flow analysis).
* Project scheduling, so that trials of new tools and processes are carried out to agreed timelines to ensure projects are completed on time.
* Oversee tool trials, commissioning, and modifications to improve process efficiency.
* Coordinate tooling design work and prioritise department workload.
* Collaborate with Production, Quality, and Design teams to support product development.
* Creation of Production Work Instructions for new tools and ensuring Operators are trained to work instructions.
* Manage subcontracted tooling manufacture and liaise with toolmakers in the UK and overseas.
* Support continuous improvement by reducing waste, labour time, and tooling costs.

MAIN REQUIREMENTS

* Degree or recognised apprenticeship in Engineering.
* At least 7 years’ experience in injection moulding tool design or similar field.
* Skilled in 3D CAD (ideally SolidWorks) and familiar with mould flow analysis.
* Strong understanding of injection moulding and manufacturing processes.
* Confident managing tooling projects from concept to production.
* Practical, analytical and creative problem-solver with strong communication skills.
* Knowledge of Lean or Continuous Improvement principles (advantageous) and ISO 9001.
* A working knowledge of MRP systems.
