Our client, a well-established manufacturing business in Leeds, is looking to appoint a Site Caretaker & Maintenance Operative. This is a hands-on, varied role suited to someone with broad maintenance skills who enjoys taking responsibility for the day-to-day upkeep of a busy site. As the Site Caretaker & Maintenance Operative, you will be the first point of contact for all building and site-related maintenance issues. The role is generalist in nature, covering mechanical, electrical, and joinery tasks, ensuring the facility is safe, well-maintained, and supports smooth manufacturing operations. Responsibilities Carry out routine inspections and general upkeep of the site, including lighting, plumbing, heating, doors, windows, and security systems. Perform minor mechanical and electrical tasks such as replacing light fittings, fault-finding, basic wiring, pump checks, and equipment upkeep. Undertake joinery and fabric maintenance such as repairing doors, locks, furniture, fixtures, and fittings. Support preventative maintenance programmes and log activity records. Respond quickly to maintenance requests or urgent repairs, ensuring minimal disruption to operations. Liaise with and oversee external contractors when specialist work is required. Ensure all activities comply with health & safety standards and company procedures. Take pride in the appearance and functionality of the site, supporting a safe and efficient workplace. Skills & Experience Previous experience in a caretaker, facilities, or general maintenance role within an industrial, commercial, or large-site environment. Good practical skills across mechanical, electrical, and joinery disciplines. Ability to use initiative, problem-solve, and prioritise workload independently. Confident in liaising with contractors and ensuring work is completed to specification. Awareness of health & safety and compliance requirements. Flexible and adaptable with a positive "can-do" attitude.
