Job Description

Are you passionate about the environment? Join us and help create a cleaner, safer and healthier environment for people and wildlife. Our producer responsibility work ensures that packaging waste is recycled in the UK or safely abroad – ‘right waste, right place’. As a Regulatory Officer you will be key to planning, monitoring and delivering compliance and enforcement activity within your area of waste regulation to drive a circular economy.

This role is based in the Packaging South team within Collections & Packaging Regimes, part of Waste Markets and Shipments.


Responsibilities

* Undertake audit and enforcement work, both desk‑based and in the field
* Collate, analyse and use complex data to support evidence‑based regulatory decisions
* Answer technical queries; interpret and diagnose problems and develop solutions
* Develop further relationships with customers and stakeholders
* Handle confidential and sensitive information in line with data protection guidelines
* Contribute to the development and improvement of processes, procedures and operational instructions
* Work with businesses to bring them into compliance and investigate non‑compliance, including interviews and case‑file compilation for legal teams
* Respond to incidents as required, including availability for incident roles and business continuity support
* Support flexible working arrangements, including job share and hybrid working


Qualifications and Skills

We are looking for people with varied experience who can demonstrate the following capabilities. Waste industry or regulatory experience is not required – full training will be provided.

* Effective, organised and able to prioritise
* Confident and assertive
* IT and computer literate
* Comfortable with numbers and handling large data sets
* Passionate about the environment and eager to learn
* Handle confrontational situations
* Adapt communication style to suit different audiences
* Integrate into a team
* Record information accurately

Must hold a full, valid UK driving licence and be willing to travel and drive as part of the role.
