The Role
The Site Engineer will be responsible for providing engineering support across multiple civil engineering projects within the region. The role involves establishing site control and levels, carrying out accurate setting out in accordance with contract drawings, and ensuring that regular checks are undertaken throughout the construction process. The position requires close collaboration with site management teams to support the safe, efficient, and accurate delivery of works. The Site Engineer will be involved in technical problem solving on site, ensuring accurate records are maintained, and supporting the coordination of resources, procurement requirements, and short-term planning activities. The role also includes contributing to project documentation such as site diaries, inspection and test plans, task briefings, and lookahead programmes while ensuring compliance with all contractual, quality, and safety requirements.
Key Responsibilities
The role requires promoting safe working practices and maintaining compliance with health, safety, and environmental standards at all times. This includes supporting a strong safety culture, ensuring adherence to company procedures, and contributing to environmentally responsible delivery of works. The Site Engineer is expected to promote best practice in quality management, ensuring that all works are delivered to a defect-free standard and that opportunities for improvement and value engineering are identified where possible. On site, the engineer will be responsible for establishing and maintaining survey control, accurately setting out works in accordance with drawings, and ensuring that all records are complete, accurate, and compliant with organisational and legal requirements. The role also includes assisting in the preparation of project documentation, supporting preconstruction planning activities, contributing to short-term programmes with site management, and maintaining detailed records including diaries, allocation sheets, and photographic documentation of progress. The engineer is also expected to be aware of commercial considerations on projects and to support the identification and notification of potential variations where appropriate.
About You
The successful candidate will have previous experience working in site engineering roles within civil engineering environments, with a strong understanding of construction methods, health and safety requirements, and relevant legislation. They will be fully competent in the use of robotic total stations or EDM equipment and will ideally hold a degree or HNC (or equivalent) in Civil Engineering. Strong communication skills are essential, along with a proactive, self-driven, and results-oriented approach to work. Experience with AutoCAD and Microsoft Office is desirable, as is knowledge of temporary works coordination. Additional beneficial qualifications include CSCS certification, cable avoidance training, first aid training, and health and safety certifications such as NEBOSH or IOSH, with SMSTS also considered advantageous.

A company vehicle or allowance may be provided depending on the role. Continuous professional development is actively supported through internal and external training, leadership and management programmes, and regular performance reviews designed to support long-term career progression.
Project Context
The role will involve working on complex civil engineering infrastructure schemes, including the repair and remediation of significant bridge structures and utility assets such as large sewer systems across rail and road environments. Projects may be in early design stages, offering involvement from conception through to delivery, and will require collaboration across engineering, commercial, and site delivery teams. The work will involve contributing to innovative engineering solutions, supporting risk reduction, and ensuring that projects are delivered safely, on programme, within budget, and to the required quality standards.
