Rotational Occupational Therapist

Are you a passionate Occupational Therapist ready to take the next step in your career? The Princess Alexandra Hospital NHS Trust is seeking a dynamic and motivated Band 6 Occupational Therapist to join our rotational programme on a fixed term contract until 22 October 2026. This is an exciting opportunity to work across a variety of acute and community settings, gaining experience in diverse clinical areas while contributing to high‑quality patient care.
You’ll be part of a supportive team delivering specialist OT services across multiple pathways, with rotations every 9 months in areas such as:
* Acute Medicine and Surgery
* Oncology and End of Life Care
* Orthopaedics
* A&E, Short Stay Wards and Frailty
* Community Settings (EPUT/HCT)
Flexibility and adaptability are key, as you’ll be working in an evolving integrated care environment.
Main duties of the job
* Provide specialist OT assessment and intervention for adults with physical, cognitive, and/or behavioural impairments.
* Manage a complex caseload and contribute to leadership within your team.
* Support safe and timely discharge planning through liaison with community teams.
* Supervise and support junior staff, including Band 5 OTs and assistants.
* Participate in audits, service development, and clinical governance activities.
* Act as a practice educator for OT students and contribute to staff training.
* Deliver advanced OT assessments and individualised treatment plans.
* Prioritise caseloads and make timely referrals to appropriate services.
* Demonstrate expert clinical reasoning and evidence-based practice.
* Recommend and arrange specialist equipment and environmental adaptations.
* Deputise for the Team Lead when required.
* Provide supervision, appraisal, and support for junior staff.
* Contribute to service development, audits, and evaluation of clinical pathways.

Qualifications
* BSc or MSc in Occupational Therapy
* HCPC registration
* Membership of Royal College of Occupational Therapy
* Membership of specialist section groups within the Royal College of Occupational Therapy, or other groups relevant to the workplace
Experience
* Adherence to the Royal College of Occupational Therapy code of ethics and professional conduct, RCOT and HCPC guidelines.
* Use of specialist knowledge to inform practice, and policy/service developments as applicable. (Information not exclusively NHS Long term plan, and NICE, RCP and RCOT guidelines)
* At least one year working as an Occupational Therapist within a comparable setting.
* Ability to critically examine and evaluate own performance within the work setting, initiate change to working practice and demonstrate integration of newly acquired knowledge into practice.
* Capable of applying Occupational Therapy models of practice and evidence-based practice.
* Demonstrate flexibility and problem solving approach when applying OT process.
* Demonstrate a wide range of assessment techniques and tools.
* Demonstration of activity analysis and synthesis in the application of the OT process.
* Understand and apply principles of risk management to clinical practice and competencies when delegating daily tasks.
* At least two years' experience working as an Occupational Therapist within a comparable setting.
* Experience as practice educator to OT students and/or supervision of more junior OT staff.
* Car Driver.
* Experience of performance management.
* Evidence of a service improvement programme completed that had significant effect on working practice.
