We are looking for a highly motivated, experienced and energetic Biomedical Scientist or Specialist Biomedical Scientist. The successful applicant will be a suitably qualified and experienced HCPC registered Biomedical Scientist. Participation in weekend, Bank Holiday, late shift and on‑call rotations is compulsory for Specialist Biomedical Scientists.
This post is based at The Royal Shrewsbury Hospital, with occasional travel to The Princess Royal Hospital in Telford.
Responsibilities
* Assist in providing a diagnostic Microbiology service for primary and secondary care patients.
* Perform laboratory procedures across Bacteriology, Mycology, Serology and Molecular Virology, independently or as part of a team.
* Support a 7‑day per week and on‑call service for Microbiology, including out‑of‑hours service as a lone worker or team leader.
* Deputise for Senior BMS staff in their absence.
* Take lead responsibility for a specialist section of the department when required.
* Train to achieve competence in Bacteriology, Mycology, Serology and Molecular Virology sections.
Qualifications & Requirements
* HCPC registration as a Biomedical Scientist.
* Experience in Microbiology, particularly Bacteriology, Mycology, Serology and Molecular Virology.
* Excellent communication, social and organisational skills.
* Commitment to professional standards set by the Health and Care Professions Council and Trust policies and procedures.
