We are recruiting for SMART (Surgical Medical Acute Recovery Team), a Staff Nurse, who shares our ambition and vision to deliver the Best of Care by the Best People and has the drive to take the service and the Trust forward, by ensuring that we continue to be the first choice for patients.
As a Staff Nurse, you will provide clinical and professional leadership, supervision, and support to patients and students within the SMART team.
Members of SMART work autonomously; therefore, we are looking for someone willing to lone work. The work includes visiting patients in the community; therefore, a full driving license is usually essential. Specific training will be provided to facilitate the pathways covered by SMART, both in-house and in the community. Confidence, good communication skills, and sound decision-making abilities are vital.
The Staff Nurse must liaise with all members of the multidisciplinary team to coordinate safe, effective, and timely care practices within the SMART service.
The role involves caring for OPAT (Outpatient Parenteral Antibiotic Therapy), Heart Failure patients, and post-operative patients. Full support and training will be provided to support these patients safely.
Our values are Bold, Every Person Counts, Sharing and Open, and Together. It is important that you understand and refer to our values when completing your application and throughout your employment with the Trust.
We are committed to endorsing diversity, multiculturalism, and inclusion; our policies ensure all applicants are treated fairly at every recruitment stage.
To contribute to our exciting future and join our team, apply today.

Role specifics
The SMART Service is nurse-led; therefore, autonomous work and effective teamwork are essential. The role includes community visits, requiring a full UK driving license and a car.
You will triage, assess, plan, and implement care for discharged patients, review SMART patients attending clinics, administer IV treatments, and conduct virtual visits using remote monitoring pathways.
The Staff Nurse liaises with multidisciplinary teams to ensure safe, effective, and timely care practices. Care for OPAT and post-operative patients is included; cannulation skills are essential for this pathway.
Activities include teaching, auditing, infection control, and research. Competence in cannulation, venipuncture, surgical wound care, and drain care is required. Innovation is encouraged, and new ideas to expand the service are welcome.
Having access to a car and the ability to drive to patient homes when needed is essential. SMART supports training to meet the role's challenges. If you are an ambitious nurse looking to develop your skills further, contact us to learn more about what we offer. We welcome visits to understand how SMART operates.
