Job Opportunity: Liaison & Diversion Children’s & Young People’s Practitioner
An opportunity has arisen within the Liaison and Diversion Team for the role of Liaison & Diversion Children’s & Young People’s Practitioner based in Barrow in Furness, South Cumbria. This key position within the established Liaison and Diversion Service for Police Custody Suites and Magistrates Courts will be offered as a permanent post.
Essential Criteria
* A minimum of NVQ Level 3 in a relevant subject OR Diploma in Health and Social Care
* Significant experience working with people with complex needs (minimum of 2 years)
Desirable Qualifications
* Professional recognized qualifications such as RMN, Learning Disability Nurse, Social Worker, Occupational Therapist, Psychology Degree, CBT Diploma, or Substance Misuse Diploma
Additional Requirements
This role requires successful candidates to undergo NPPV Level 2 (full) Police Vetting, which necessitates having been resident in the UK for at least three years.
Service Overview
Liaison and Diversion (L&D) services identify individuals with substance misuse, mental health, learning disability, or other vulnerabilities when they first come into contact with the criminal justice system, supporting them through early stages, referring to appropriate services, or diverting them from the criminal justice system if needed.
Role Responsibilities
1. Assess individuals within Police Custody Suites and Courts across Lancashire & Cumbria, including voluntary attendees.
2. Identify unmet needs and vulnerabilities, offering referrals and signposting.
3. Coordinate across agencies to support planning and interventions.
4. Provide brief community-based interventions to enhance engagement.
5. Support decision-making with relevant information for sentencing and disposal outcomes.
The service operates throughout Lancashire & Cumbria, with travel between sites and other teams as needed. Informal visits are encouraged.
