The role:

• Develop, implement, and review a customer‑centric category strategy for the category, creating innovative buying strategies that exceed customer expectations.
• Create and deliver the category vision with a focus on growing cash sales and margin delivery, while building long‑lasting mutually beneficial relationships with suppliers.
• Negotiate JBP’s that deliver on category objectives.
• Source new suppliers and products that excite consumers and create value, choice and quality, driving sales and margin growth.
• Develop promotional plans and in‑store activations that drive footfall and consumer value perception.
• Develop and manage a cost‑reduction strategy that delivers targeted margin and embodies a strong understanding of market dynamics, commodities, etc.
• Use data and insights to work with internal and external stakeholders – including merchandising, marketing and retail operations – to drive the strategy’s delivery.

Qualifications:

• Commercial experience gained from UK food retail or wholesale.
• Managed large‑scale negotiations with leading branded manufacturers.
• Hands‑on buying experience with a proven track record in delivering successful JBP’s.
• Passion for the customer and product with a flair for commerciality.
• Excellent relationship‑building skills, able to communicate and influence internal and external stakeholders.
• Strong insight and data‑analysis skills, able to act on opportunities to drive profit.
• Excellent planning and organisation skills; can work independently, a self‑starter with a can‑do attitude.
