We're representing a respected building consultancy with a strong reputation in insurance major loss, subsidence, fire, and flood claims.
They're looking to appoint a Senior Building Surveyor or Building Engineer to lead their Major Loss Division, working across residential, commercial, and heritage properties.
This is a fantastic opportunity for a technically capable surveyor or engineer who wants to step up, take ownership, and move towards Associate or Directorship.
The Role
As Senior Surveyor / Building Engineer, you'll take the lead on major loss insurance claims, including investigation, design, and remediation work.
You'll oversee and mentor junior staff, manage client relationships, and help grow the division's technical and expert witness capabilities.
Typical responsibilities include:
* Leading on fire, flood, and subsidence claims from investigation to resolution.
* Undertaking site inspections, structural assessments, and technical reporting.
* Designing and specifying remedial and temporary works solutions.
* Providing expert witness input (subsidence-related, with scope to broaden).
* Liaising with loss adjusters, insurers, and private clients.
* Supporting business development and client continuity through technical excellence.
What We're Looking For
Essential:
* Strong engineering background - ideally Building Engineer, Senior Surveyor, or Engineering Technician level.
* Hands-on experience with insurance loss projects - particularly fire, flood, and subsidence.
* Ability to design and specify remedial solutions, including:
o Underpinning and retaining structures
o Beams, lintels, rafters, joists
o Simple goal post and box frames
o Temporary support works
* Confident assessing foundation loadings and interpreting site investigation data.
* Client-facing, commercially aware, and keen to help develop the Major Loss function.
Desirable:
* C.Build.E, ACIOB, or equivalent qualification (or proven experience at similar level).
* Experience or willingness to undertake expert witness work, especially relating to subsidence.
* CAD skills (advantageous but not essential).

This role will suit a hands-on surveyor or building engineer with a practical, problem-solving approach.
