Specialist Acute Rotational Physiotherapist

We are looking for an enthusiastic and highly motivated physiotherapist to build on their physiotherapy skills through our Acute Band 6 Rotation. Each 6‑month rotation is led by strong and supportive senior colleagues with a wealth of experience. You will be a key member of our friendly integrated therapy team and provide a skilled and responsive therapy service.

We are looking for candidates with rotational band 5 experience in a hospital‑based environment, with strong communication and teamwork skills. You also need to be self‑motivated, adaptable and dynamic. There may be a requirement for flexible working times on some rotations; you will also participate in the on‑call and weekend rotas throughout the rotations.

We are committed to your training and development of acute specialist skills and clinical expertise and will provide opportunities to participate in training, service development, audit and clinical supervision.

Main duties of the job

* Medical/surgical: Gain specialist experience in respiratory management of a wide variety of patients, developing skills in ITU and critical care and treating paediatrics and respiratory out‑patients.
* Orthopaedics: Assess and treat many orthopaedic conditions including patients repatriated from the major trauma centre, gain familiarity with specialist orthotic equipment and may treat paediatric orthopaedics and manage discharge‑ready ward patients.
* Acute Older Adult Rehabilitation: Develop skills in risk assessment and the management of complex patients including those with dementia and work closely with the MDT and families.
* Acute Medical Unit: Develop assessment and decision‑making skills in a short‑stay admission unit, gain experience in cardiology and exposure to front‑door services.
* Frailty team: Gain experience working in the frailty unit and rapid‑access clinics, developing close links with the rapid response, falls team and other community services.
* Stroke unit: Work alongside the specialist neuro team to assess and rehabilitate patients transferred from the local HSAU and develop specialist neuro knowledge and handling skills. Work closely with the ESD team and rehabilitation unit.

Job responsibilities

JOB SUMMARY: Perform advanced physiotherapeutic assessment of patients with diverse presentations and complex physical conditions, provide a diagnosis and develop and deliver an individualised treatment programme.

Hold responsibility for own caseload and be responsible for a defined area of the service or a particular patient type, working without direct supervision.

Undertake all aspects of clinical duties as an autonomous practitioner.

Supervise, educate and assess the performance of physiotherapy students as appropriate.

Undertake evidence‑based audit projects to develop and enhance personal and team clinical practice within each rotation.


Person Specification

* Diploma or Degree in Physiotherapy
* Current HCPC registration
* Respiratory Care
* Care of Older People
* Orthopaedics
* Theoretical / clinical applications of interventions related to respiratory, orthopaedic elderly care, frailty and neurological
* CPD/Personal Development Planning
* Health & Safety issues (Handling/infection control)
* Accredited courses in relevant fields
* Relevant post‑grad degree e.g. MSc
* Paediatrics
* Experience of supervision of students / support workers
* Experience in teaching of other professionals


Skills / knowledge and experience

* Degree in Physiotherapy
* Band 5 Experience in all essential core areas
* Theoretical / clinical applications of interventions related to respiratory, orthopaedic elderly care, frailty and neurological
* Evidence of critical appraisal and professional development
* Ability to manage own caseload and identify priorities and problem‑solve
* Evidence of ability to work well with the MDT
* Excellent verbal and written communication skills and computer literacy
* Displays CARES values
* Evidence of flexibility, resilience
* Experience of supervision of support workers / students
* Other relevant clinical experience
* Teaching and presentation skills
* Experience of service development, audit or research
