Role Overview
Reading Borough Council is seeking an experienced Locum Case Manager, also known as a Court Progression Manager, to join their Joint Legal Team. This temporary role plays a critical part in ensuring the timely progression of care proceedings and child protection cases, supporting social work teams, and driving improvements in practice.
The successful candidate will act as a key point of contact between social workers, team managers, and Assistant Directors of Children's Services, providing oversight, guidance, and quality assurance for cases in both pre-proceedings and court proceedings.
Key Responsibilities
* Monitor and track cases in pre-proceedings and court proceedings, ensuring compliance with statutory timescales
* Provide oversight, guidance, and challenge to social work teams to drive case progression
* Analyse case progression, identify causes of delay, and escalate concerns where necessary
* Support preparation of written evidence and reports for court
* Attend Legal Planning / Gateway meetings and monthly tracking meetings
* Drive improvements through quality assurance, monitoring, and performance tracking
* Work collaboratively with social workers, team managers, legal teams, and other stakeholders
* Maintain high professional standards while managing competing priorities
Essential Requirements
* Qualified Social Worker with Social Work England registration
* Substantial experience within family justice, including care proceedings and complex child protection cases
* Excellent communication, organisational, and coaching skills
* Strong analytical skills with the ability to manage competing priorities
* Highly resilient, proactive, and able to work autonomously
* Willingness to attend client offices (Wokingham & Bracknell) up to once a week / fortnight if required
