The Opportunity:
The Project Quality Manager (PQM) role at Laing O'Rourke offers a unique opportunity to lead quality assurance and control within prestigious engineering projects. This senior position is vital for ensuring operational excellence and customer satisfaction through enabling and assurance.
The PQM will foster a culture of continuous improvement and quality, supporting the team in delivering high-quality outcomes. This role is essential for maintaining work integrity, mitigating risks, and ensuring compliance.
What will the role look like?
* Implementing the Quality Management System aligned with the Quality Policy.
* Managing Quality within assigned areas and acting as a Quality contact for stakeholders, including third-party assessors.
* Promoting a 'Get it Right' and Quality Culture, identifying risks and opportunities for improvement, escalating issues, and stopping work when necessary to protect integrity.
* Delivering training, inductions, and toolbox talks to improve productivity, quality, sustainability, and safety.
* Reviewing execution deliverables such as Quality Plans, Method Statements, Inspection & Test Plans, Work Procedures, and Material Approval Forms.
* Monitoring Non-Conformance (NC) incidents, analyzing trends, and taking corrective actions, reporting to senior management.
* Leading/supporting the Quality Incident Event Process (QIEP) for Category 1 NCRs, ensuring thorough investigations and corrective actions.
* Supporting digital construction tools for quality records and reporting.
* Ensuring development and management of Lifetime Quality Record (LTQR) documents, maintaining the 'golden thread' of information.
* Supporting compliance with legal, regulatory, and voluntary standards, fostering a culture of openness and continuous improvement.
* Representing Quality in meetings, monitoring KPIs, and liaising with client representatives.
* Collaborating with all functions, managing Quality Engineers, and challenging professionally to drive improvements.
* Conducting or supporting internal audits, maintaining ISO 9001 and BS 99001 certifications.
* Supporting strategies, objectives, and initiatives across the Europe Hub, and participating in quality forums.
* Reviewing sector trends, risks, and opportunities, applying knowledge to improve quality.
* Developing strategies, policies, and plans to achieve quality objectives, escalating risks or opportunities.
What skills & experience are we looking for?
* Minimum of 10 years' experience in Quality, including governance, assurance, compliance, improvement, and leadership, with strong technical knowledge.
* Experience in high assurance regulated industries such as Nuclear, Rail, Energy, Healthcare.
* Technical risk management and opportunity management skills.
* Strong communication skills and relationship-building abilities across various stakeholders.
* Experience managing teams.
* Ability to prioritize and implement in complex environments.
* Deep understanding of ISO 9001:2015 and related standards.
* Good IT skills and data interpretation abilities.
* Knowledge of project systems like Fieldview, Asite, Trimble for digital construction and assurance.
* Ability to meet tight deadlines and manage workload effectively.
Qualifications (Desirable)
* ISO 9001:2015 Internal or Lead Auditor certification or working towards it.
* Chartered Member of CQI or equivalent, or working towards membership.
