OCU Digital is growing, and we’re looking for an experienced Delivery Manager to play a pivotal role in how we plan, coordinate and deliver work across our engineering and platform teams.
Help shape predictable, high-quality digital delivery at OCU based in Preston!
This is a hands‑on delivery leadership role at the heart of execution. You’ll bring structure, rhythm and clarity to complex delivery environments, enabling teams to deliver reliably while ensuring stakeholders have confidence in progress, risks and outcomes. If you enjoy turning demand into achievable plans, managing dependencies, and improving how teams work together, this role offers real impact and visibility.
About the role
As a Delivery Manager, you will sit at the centre of day‑to‑day delivery across OCU Digital’s platforms and products. Working closely with Product Owners, Engineering Managers, Platform Managers and colleagues across Digital Technology and Transformation, you’ll ensure that priorities are clear, plans are realistic, and delivery aligns to agreed standards and business outcomes.
You’ll balance coordination with judgement spotting issues early, managing trade‑offs, and escalating clearly and constructively when needed. You’ll also play a key role in ensuring that innovation, engineering and operational considerations come together so change can be introduced safely and sustainably into live services.
Over time, you’ll help mature OCU Digital’s delivery discipline, improving ways of working, optimising tooling and reporting, and supporting less experienced delivery colleagues.
Own day‑to‑day delivery flow
* Coordinate delivery across one or more teams or platforms, ensuring work is clearly prioritised and sequenced.
* Maintain visibility of scope, milestones, dependencies and risks using agreed tools and artefacts.
* Lead or support delivery ceremonies such as planning, stand‑ups, reviews and retrospectives.
* Work with Product Owners and Engineering Managers to ensure backlogs support predictable delivery.
Manage cross‑team dependencies and alignment
* Identify, track and communicate dependencies across teams, platforms and suppliers.
* Facilitate conversations to resolve clashes, sequencing issues or capacity constraints.
* Support alignment with wider roadmaps in partnership with Platform Managers and the Digital Programme Office.
* Own handover to Service Operations and act as an escalation point during hyper‑care periods.
* Work with Transformation teams to manage cross‑programme impacts and dependencies.
Uphold delivery standards and quality
* Promote adherence to standards such as Definition of Ready (DoR), Definition of Done (DoD) and change control processes.
* Ensure documentation, monitoring and service readiness are built into delivery plans.
* Identify and manage delivery, design, capacity and operational risks early.
* Maintain accurate delivery artefacts including plans, RAID logs and status reports.
Provide clear communication and reporting
* Deliver concise, audience‑appropriate updates on progress, risks, issues and decisions.
* Use delivery data to support evidence‑based discussions and decision‑making.
* Act as a central point of contact for delivery‑related queries.
* Escalate concerns early where outcomes, timelines or service readiness may be impacted.
Drive continuous improvement
* Identify opportunities to improve flow, reduce friction and strengthen collaboration.
* Create and track delivery and engineering metrics (e.g. deployment frequency, change failure rate).
* Capture and follow through on actions from retrospectives and post‑implementation reviews.
* Share best practice across OCU Digital and support the development of junior delivery colleagues.
What we need
* Proven experience as a Delivery Manager, Scrum Master or similar role in a digital or technology environment.
* Strong practical understanding of Agile, Scrum, Kanban or similar frameworks, applied pragmatically in multi‑team settings.
* Demonstrated ability to manage cross‑team dependencies, risks and delivery trade‑offs.
* Confident use of delivery tooling such as Azure DevOps, Jira or equivalent.
* Excellent communication skills, able to engage engineers, product leaders, service teams and senior stakeholders.
