Role Highlights

* Chelmsford based role with hybrid working
* Lead and develop a high‑performing, inclusive Claims team, using data, insight and collaboration to deliver exceptional service, strong commercial outcomes and continuous improvement.

The Opportunity

As an Assistant Claims Manager, you'll play a pivotal role in shaping the performance, culture and future of our AP Claims team. Leading a diverse group of Claims professionals across the UK and international locations, you'll bring our Claims strategy to life - balancing commercial outcomes with exceptional customer service and people‑centred leadership. This is an opportunity to influence change, use insight and data to drive improvement, and create an inclusive, high‑performing environment where people feel supported, trusted and empowered to do their best work, all within a flexible, hybrid working model.

About QBE

At QBE, we get to the heart of what matters for our customers. And we do it all with a human touch.

We're an international insurer with more than 13,000 people working across 26 countries – which means we're big enough for your ambitions, yet small enough for you to make a real impact. It's an exciting time. We're building momentum towards our vision to become the most consistent and innovative risk partner.

What if you could have a positive impact – at work and in the world? As part of the QBE team, you'll get to spend every day working with people who are passionate, talented and kind.

Your new role:

* Bring the Claims strategy to life by leading day‑to‑day performance across the AP Claims team, ensuring service excellence and strong commercial outcomes
* Manage and coach a team of Claims professionals (6–9 direct reports), including colleagues based across the UK and international locations, creating an inclusive and high‑performing environment
* Monitor claims performance, trends and repairer outcomes, using data and insight to identify risks, opportunities and areas for improvement
* Work closely with Underwriters and key stakeholders to deliver claims services in line with contractual commitments and customer expectations
* Champion quality, compliance and best‑practice claims handling, ensuring regulatory standards and QBE's Claims Handling Philosophy are embedded
* Use MI, reporting and storytelling to support decision‑making, improve outcomes and influence change
* Identify and address performance or capability gaps, supporting individuals through coaching, feedback and development planning
* Embrace technology, data and emerging tools (including AI) to continuously improve efficiency, insight and customer experience
* Build strong relationships with internal teams, suppliers and partners to support cost control, quality and customer retention
* Lead with flexibility and trust, supporting hybrid working (typically two days a week in the office) while keeping teams connected and engaged

Having the right to work in the UK is a requirement for this role.  QBE may consider sponsorship at its discretion.

About You

* Proven experience in Claims, with exposure to managing people, performance and service delivery in a fast‑paced environment
* Experience working in automotive protection would be preferred, but is not essential.
* Previous people‑management experience, with the ability to motivate, coach and develop teams, including those working remotely or across locations
* Comfortable using data, MI and reports to understand performance, tell a clear story and drive improvement
* Experience working collaboratively with stakeholders such as Underwriters, suppliers or operational partners
* Open to change and innovation, with a positive mindset towards new tools, technology and smarter ways of working
