Smile Education are currently recruiting for experienced Teaching Assistants to support a specialist educational setting in the West Bromwich area. This unique role is ideal for individuals with a background in children’s residential care, alternative provisions, or supporting students with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs. About the Role: You will be working in a structured, supportive setting that caters for up to 60 students, with typical class sizes of around 8 learners. The curriculum includes core academic subjects such as English and Maths, alongside vocational pathways, with a strong focus on building confidence, emotional resilience, and academic achievement. This setting primarily supports young people in Key Stage 3 and Key Stage 4 who have been referred including those at risk of or already permanently excluded from mainstream education. The aim is to help them reintegrate into mainstream settings or support them onto a sustainable long-term learning pathway. Key Responsibilities: Provide targeted support to students with SEMH and behavioural needs Confidently de-escalate challenging situations and support self-regulation Deliver small group tasks and interventions Build positive, trusting relationships with students Work independently and adapt flexibly to daily needs Support students both in lessons and during unstructured times, promoting positive interactionsEssential Requirements: A relevant Level 2 or higher qualification (education or youth-related) Recent experience (within the past 12 months) in a similar role Experience supporting students with challenging behaviour and SEMH Confident working independently and with a flexible, proactive approach A commitment to providing high-quality care and education Enhanced DBS on the Update Service (or willing to apply for one via Smile Education)Application Process: Successful candidates will be contacted and invited to complete the registration process with Smile Education.
