Occupational Therapist – Better Care At Home Service (BCaH)
Full Time, Permanent – Pay £38,220 - £46,142 per annum (pro rata).
Overview
Our new Better Care at Home Service (BCaH) is a dynamic and exciting opportunity to showcase Occupational Therapy in social care, focusing on optimising independence and reducing manual handling of people. BCaH is a key improvement program within Solihull Adult Social Care, aimed at maximising independence, reducing avoidable manual handling, and improving outcomes for adults, carers and the Council.
Responsibilities
* Complete high‑quality moving and handling risk assessments that optimise independence, minimise unnecessary handling and support safe, effective care arrangements.
* Work directly with adults, carers and care providers, applying recognised techniques and appropriate equipment, and challenging unsafe or ineffective practice where required.
* Collaborate closely with Adult Social Care teams, NHS colleagues involved in discharge and community services, and care providers to establish and embed consistent practice with shared standards.
* Promote good practice across Occupational Therapy services and demonstrate the benefits of reduced handling, including improved independence, reduced risk, and cost avoidance.
Qualifications
* Diploma or BSc (or World Federation of Occupational Therapy equivalent) in Occupational Therapy.
* Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) registration.
* Awareness of current relevant legislation.
* Good communication skills.
* Awareness of assistive technology, technology‐enabled care and current IT systems.
* Understanding of the provision of daily living equipment, environmental adaptations and supporting people with moving and handling needs.
* Demonstrable experience of completing moving and handling assessments with successful outcomes; experience of approaches to reducing manual handling, including single‑handed care models, is desirable.
* Driving licence and own vehicle (essential for this post).
