The College is seeking to appoint an enthusiastic and hardworking Science Technician to join the College’s Science Technician Team. The successful applicant will primarily work with the Physics department, but the ability to work with Chemistry and Biology would be an advantage. The successful applicant will be required to work with staff and students on the courses to support practical elements of learning in the labs, as well as maintain equipment and high standards of health and safety.
The post is available immediately on a permanent, full-time, term-time only basis (39 weeks per year). The hours of work are from 8.30am to 4.30pm, Monday to Friday (85.62%).
Previous experience of working with teenagers is desirable, but not essential. The post holder will spend a significant amount of the working day interacting with students, so the ability to feel confident in the presence of and communicating with young adults is essential. The role requires experience of working with science apparatus and resources.
The post requires commitment and flexibility in the approach to work, with the ability to remain calm at all times. You will be required to attend our 3 Open Evenings in the autumn term for which time off in lieu will be given.
The Department
The Department is housed in the County Building, along with other STEM subjects. The labs are fully equipped with data projectors, whiteboards, Wi-Fi, gas, water, and fume cupboards. The Department has access to mobile learning devices to further enhance learning.
Students regularly progress onto university courses for Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Engineering and Medicine.
The Team has five other members who work closely as a team in a friendly, co-operative, and flexible manner. Strong emphasis is given to mutual support by the exchange of ideas and materials.
Courses
The Technician Team supports a curriculum offer that includes A Level Biology, Chemistry and Physics, BTEC Applied Human Biology and Tech Level Engineering.
The salary for this post is from £21,738.06 per annum (FTE £25,389) to £22,888.79 per annum (FTE £26,733). Progression is on an annual increment scale to £23,850.31 per annum (FTE £27,856).
