Job Summary
This consultant position in Geriatric Medicine with a specialist interest in Stroke is based at Whiston Hospital. It is a full‑time role within a rapidly expanding multidisciplinary acute care team across Mersey and West Lancashire Teaching Hospitals.
Key Responsibilities
* Lead improvement initiatives within acute stroke services for Mersey and West Lancashire.
* Support delivery of acute services, including the 24/7 thrombolysis and mechanical thrombectomy programme.
* Run Monday‑to‑Friday transient ischaemic attack (TIA) clinics.
* Provide stroke patient care on the Hyper‑Acute Stroke Unit (HASU) and Acute Stroke Unit (ASU).
* Offer post‑acute stroke rehabilitation unit cover for patients transitioning from acute care.
Salary, Contract and Working Pattern
* Salary: £109,725 to £145,478 per annum (Grade YM 72).
* Contract: Permanent.
* Working pattern: Full‑time.
Qualifications
* Full GMC registration and membership of the Royal College of Physicians (or equivalent).
* On the Specialist Register or within six months of obtaining Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT) at the time of interview.
* UK‑trained physicians must hold a CCT or be within six months of award; non‑UK‑trained physicians must provide equivalence evidence.
* MBBS/MBChB or equivalent medical qualification.
* MRCP or equivalent medical qualification.
* MD/MPhD or equivalent earned postgraduate qualification.
* ALS / ATLS certification.
Desirable Additions
* Specialist training in Stroke.
* Evidence of participation in ED interface geriatrics and stroke assessment and thrombolysis administration.
* Publications in preferred journals.
Knowledge, Experience & Skills
* Completed Core medical trainee and Foundation trainee posts.
* Specialist training in geriatrics, general medicine and stroke with all required competencies achieved.
* Broad experience in geriatrics, general medicine and stroke.
* Relevant experience in audit organisation and participation.
* Ability to teach clinical skills.
* Commitment to continuing medical education.
