Business & Operations Team:
The school's business and operations function is central to ensuring the school runs smoothly, safely and effectively. The School Business Manager is a key strategic role, working closely with the Headteacher and Governors to manage finance, HR administration, premises, compliance and operational planning.
The school is seeking a highly skilled and proactive School Business Manager who can oversee day-to-day operations while contributing to longer-term financial planning and school development priorities. This is an ideal role for someone who enjoys working in a varied, fast-paced environment and can balance strategic thinking with hands-on operational leadership.
The successful candidate will be responsible for managing the school budget, monitoring expenditure, supporting procurement processes, overseeing contracts and ensuring best value. You will also manage administrative and premises staff, support payroll and HR processes, and ensure compliance with policies and statutory requirements.
You will play an important role in supporting the school's leadership team by providing accurate financial reports, supporting governors with budget planning, and ensuring operational systems are efficient and robust. The school is looking for someone with strong financial skills, excellent attention to detail and the confidence to lead and improve processes.
Requirements
• Proven experience in a school business, finance or operations management role (education experience highly desirable)
• Strong understanding of school budgets, financial reporting and procurement processes
• Ability to manage contracts, compliance and operational planning effectively
• Experience managing staff and supporting day-to-day school operations
• Strong IT skills, including competence using finance systems and Microsoft Office
• Excellent organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines
• Professional communication skills, including the ability to liaise confidently with senior leaders, governors and external stakeholders
• Strong attention to detail and commitment to confidentiality
• A proactive, solution-focused approach with the ability to improve systems and processes
