We have an exciting opportunity for a committed, motivated and clinically expert renal nurse to apply for this Band 6 ward sister/ charge nurse post on Kerr Ward. This is an excellent opportunity to develop your leadership skills in a more senior role.
We care for a variety of renal patients with complex medical and surgical needs. This post is pivotal in providing visible nursing leadership within a multi-professional team. The post holder must be a good team player and leader who is willing to assist and deputise for the Ward Manager when required. You will need to have excellent communication and negotiation skills as you will be working in collaboration with the wider MDT.
The post holder must have a minimum of 2 years experience within a renal setting, and will have a post registration Renal Course and Student Assessor qualification.
The post holder must have the ability to motivate the team to provide high quality patient care. As part of the dedicated nursing team the Senior Staff Nurse will be expected to support staff by assessing care needs and evaluate acuity on every shift. As a role model you will be encouraged to empower staff, participate in innovative ideas using evidence based nursing practice.

Main duties of the job
1. Carry out planned care for a group of patients without direct supervision.
2. Ensure the assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of evidence based, individualised patient care.
3. Plan organise and deploy staff according to ability and workload in order to meet patient needs.
4. Assist in the orientation of new staff and students.
5. Ensure that nursing practices comply with Trust policies and procedures.
6. Communicate effectively at all times and maintain a harmonious working environment.
7. Assess the needs of patients, relatives and carers and provide them with information as requested.
8. Assist in the teaching and development of nursing assistants, students and junior staff, helping them to achieve their learning outcomes.
9. To keep up to date with current developments in nursing and ensure evidence based practice.
