We¿re looking for a proactive and inspiring Underwriting Team Manager to lead, motivate and develop a team of Underwriters, ensuring outstanding service delivery and high quality decision making.
About the Role
As an Underwriting Team Manager, you¿ll oversee the smooth and accurate processing of mortgage applications from submission through to completion. You¿ll drive performance, champion quality, support continuous improvement, and ensure regulatory standards are met at every stage. This is a people centric leadership role where your ability to coach, develop and engage your team will be key to our operational success.
What You¿ll Be Doing
1. Leading, coaching and developing a team of up to 10 Underwriters to achieve service, quality and productivity targets
2. Ensuring high levels of service excellence and acting as an escalation point for complex cases
3. Overseeing underwriting quality and ensuring work adheres to policy, procedures and mandate guidelines
4. Managing workflow, capacity planning and team performance
5. Working closely with Credit Risk, third party partners, valuers and internal stakeholders
6. Monitoring risk, compliance and financial crime controls
7. Conducting audits, sample reviews and quality checks to continually enhance performance
8. Supporting process improvements and contributing to departmental development projects
What We¿re Looking For
9. Proven experience leading underwriting teams within a mortgage environment
10. Strong underwriting background with a good understanding of residential and Buy to Let processes
11. Excellent people management, coaching and development skills
12. Confident decision maker with the ability to assess risk and maintain quality
13. Experience handling customer or broker escalations and complaints
14. Strong analytical skills and ability to interpret MI
15. Knowledge of regulatory and financial crime requirements
16. CeMAP/CeRCC preferable, or willingness to study
