SEND Teaching Assistant

We are recruiting full-time, temporary SEND Teaching Assistants to support pupils aged 11–19 in a specialist independent school in Wakefield. The school caters for students with a range of complex needs, including Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC), communication and interaction needs, and associated social, emotional and mental health (SEMH) needs.
The setting provides a calm, structured and highly personalised learning environment where relationships, consistency and holistic development are central. This is a rewarding opportunity to work within a nurturing environment focused on building independence, confidence and life skills.
The Role
As a SEND Teaching Assistant, you will:
* Provide 1:1 and small-group support to pupils with EHCPs
* Assist in delivering personalised learning programmes tailored to individual needs
* Support pupils with communication, emotional regulation and social development
* Promote independence and life skills throughout the school day
* Help maintain a calm, purposeful and structured learning environment
* Work collaboratively with teachers, therapists and pastoral teams
* Support behaviour positively using consistent strategies
This is a full-time, temporary role (term-time only) with the potential to become permanent for the right candidate.
We Are Looking For
Essential:
* Experience working with children or young people with SEND (ASC, SEMH or complex needs)
* A patient, resilient and calm approach
* Strong communication and relationship-building skills
* The ability to follow structured behaviour and learning plans
* A genuine passion for inclusive education
Desirable:
* Experience in specialist or alternative provision settings
* Understanding of trauma-informed practice
* Team Teach or positive handling training
* Relevant qualifications (e.g., CACHE Level 2/3, TA qualification, Health & Social Care)
