Job Responsibilities
Be responsible for planning in an appropriate and imaginative way to meet the individual needs of each child. Plan suitable activities that incorporate sensory needs and the child's academic level, building on life skills. Ensure the pace of lessons is appropriate for each child. Develop practical and engaging tasks for individual practitioners to carry out. Hold daily planning meetings with practitioners, allowing feedback to inform planning and next steps. Keep formal records of these meetings and their impact on children's outcomes. Use outcomes and feedback to plan next steps that are correctly pitched and appropriate. Encourage practitioner involvement in planning to ensure they are aware of their lessons.
Be responsible for assessing all children in the pre-formal rooms, including:
* Academic tracking,
* Autism framework tracking,
* Soft skills tracking,
* IEPs – reviewed half-termly,
* Behaviour logs – daily updates,
* Positive behaviour support plans – reviewed half-termly,
* Updating SCERTS profiles with weekly observations and support assessments,
* Daily uploading and reviewing of the assessment app,
* Supporting practitioners to use the assessment app confidently and independently.
Quality assure practitioners' teaching through the appraisal process. Develop adaptive teaching, encouraging initiative among practitioners. Support the use of AfL during tasks to help children achieve. Provide practical learning tasks that incorporate sensory needs to create a calm environment suitable for children benefiting from a pre-formal classroom. Oversee the use of outdoor areas for meaningful activities supporting development. Plan and facilitate a collapsed curriculum afternoon, encouraging children to engage in activities of their choosing. Ensure bespoke timetables are followed to maintain consistency. Promote the use of individual timetables to foster independence, routine, and consistency. Create and embed classroom routines that are predictable and incorporate sensory needs, communication targets, and life skills. Support children’s self-care and independence development.
Candidate Requirements
* Qualified teacher (QTS required)
* Strong interest in SEN and inclusive education
* Excellent classroom practice and commitment to raising standards
* Proactive, reflective, and eager to develop professionally
