Eastern Green Link 2 (EGL2) is a transformative 5‑year initiative delivering a 525 kV, 2 GW high‑voltage direct current (HVDC) subsea transmission cable connecting Peterhead, Scotland to Drax, England. This will be the longest HVDC cable in the UK and the largest single transmission project ever undertaken, capable of powering 2 million homes.
Project Environment Manager – Your Role
Reporting to the project’s management team, you’ll play a pivotal role in ensuring compliance with regulatory standards, BAM’s internal procedures, and client requirements. This role can be based at either our Peterhead site or Drax, Selby site and offers a hybrid working model: 3 days on‑site or at the office, 2 days from home.
Key Responsibilities
* Lead the environmental aspects of project delivery, including chairing project environmental meetings.
* Attend project progress meetings, provide input and guidance, and report on environmental issues.
* Interface with the Employer’s Environmental Team.
* Review employer environmental documentation, prepare and ensure the adequacy of site‑specific environmental documentation and records.
* Provide guidance and advice on environmental controls and laws to the project team.
* Investigate environmental incidents, lead incident reporting and lessons‑learnt processes.
* Manage environmental staff, including the Environmental Clerk of Works and other specialists.
* Lead the delivery of all environmental consenting requirements required by the contract.
* Manage delivery and reporting of project environmental KPIs.
* Monitor and maintain the project CEMP, ensuring continual improvement in line with environmental standards, regulatory requirements, and BAM infrastructure needs.
* Verify conformance of project systems and management plans with environmental standards, regulatory and BAM Nuttall requirements.
* Maintain a legal compliance matrix and keep the team aware of relevant environmental legislation.
* Give technical advice on CEMP requirements and analyse environmental performance statistics.
* Support audits and help evaluate project vendors.
* Develop and deliver local training activities, toolbox talks, etc.
* Maintain environmental databases/systems as required.
* Undertake regular site environmental inspections and audits.
* Build relationships with local stakeholders, environmental regulators, and supply chain specialists, ensuring up‑to‑date company procedures and processes.
Required Qualifications and Experience
* Proven experience and expertise in developing and delivering environment management systems (EMS) that demonstrate continual improvement in line with ISO 14001 requirements.
* Comprehensive awareness of environmental regulation and legislation.
* Knowledge of the civil engineering industry.
* Experience in training, coaching and mentoring environmental staff.
* Degree‑level qualification in Environmental Management or equivalent technical qualification with extensive experience in an environmental role.
* Qualified to Chartered Environmentalist (Full IEMA) status or equivalent.
* Articulate and engaging communication skills.
* Understanding of BAM digital construction vision and its application.

* Qualified environmental auditor.
* Strong connections with industry forum groups and trade bodies.
* Commercial awareness and understanding.
* Collaborative and supportive behaviours.
* Proficiency in scoping, application and use of information technology.
