Reports To

Professional Duties
* Plan and prepare courses and lessons.
* Teach pupils according to their educational needs, including setting and marking work.
* Assess, record and report on pupils’ development, progress and attainment.
* Promote the general progress and well‑being of pupils and provide advice and guidance on educational and social matters.
* Communicate and consult with parents and with external persons or bodies approved by the employing authority.
* Participate in meetings for curriculum, pastoral and administrative purposes.
* Provide oral and written assessments, reports and references relating to pupils.
* Participate in staff development, performance review and professional development schemes.
* Review and improve teaching methods and programmes.
* Co‑operate with Principal and other teachers on course preparation, teaching materials, assessment methods and pastoral arrangements.
* Maintain good order, discipline and safeguard pupils’ health and safety.
* Participate in the school’s curriculum and administrative meetings and arrangements for public examinations.
* Contribute to the selection, induction and development of other teachers.
* Manage administrative tasks related to teaching duties, including ordering equipment and materials.
* Attend assemblies and supervise attendance of pupils.
* Be available for work on specified days and hours, e.g., 195 days per year.
Essential Qualifications and Experience
* Hold a teaching qualification recognised for teaching in grant‑aided schools in Northern Ireland.
* Hold a degree (minimum 2:2 or above) or equivalent Level 6 qualification or teaching qualification for Health and Social Care or a similar associated subject.
* Demonstrable experience of teaching Health and Social Care in a post‑primary school.
* Be registered with the General Teaching Council for Northern Ireland (GTCNI) before taking up the post.
Essential Knowledge and Skills
* Current knowledge of the subject area and teaching approaches for an all‑ability setting.
* Knowledge of assessment approaches promoting effective teaching and student progress.
* Knowledge of positive behaviour for learning (e.g., restorative practice).
* Knowledge of the range of post‑primary qualifications available within the subject area.
* Knowledge of the Northern Ireland Curriculum.
* Knowledge of safeguarding and child protection policy/practice.
* Effective communication and interpersonal skills.
* Ability to provide a supportive and challenging learning environment inside and outside the classroom.
* Initiative, problem‑solving, flexibility.
* Collaboration to promote positive relationships with pupils, colleagues, parents and wider community.
* Teamworking, motivation of self and others.
* Commitment to professional competence development.
* Evidence of alignment with the school’s values/ethos.
Desirable Criteria
* Experience of teaching GHCE CCEA Health and Social Care at KS4 in a post‑primary setting.
* Higher degree (minimum 2:1 or above) or equivalent Level 6 qualification or suitable teaching qualification.
Disclosure
Expected to undergo an Enhanced Disclosure of Criminal Background for regulated activity if the role involves such activity.
