Job overview
An exciting opportunity for the position of Stroke Research Nurse has arisen to work within the Stroke services at Epsom and St.Helier University Hospitals NHS Trust for a six month secondment. The integrated service ensures that patients have continuity of care as their recovery progresses, allowing a seamless journey from high intensity acute services through to community rehabilitation, and on-going coordination within the primary, community and voluntary services which will support their life after stroke.
What are we looking for?
We are looking for a dynamic individual who will be responsible for the co-ordination and management of an agreed clinical research portfolio within the specialty of stroke at Epsom and St Helier University Hospitals NHS Trust. The post holder will work collaboratively with the stroke nurses and wider multidisciplinary team in the management of their own caseload of clinical trials patients and be accountable for the achievement of local and national targets in relation to the service.
Responsibilities include - facilitating study set-up; identifying suitable patients through the process of MDT's/screening notes; collecting data; interviewing; supporting and monitoring patients and data entry. The post holder will also be expected to have sufficient skills to enable patients to make informed choices concerning their involvement in clinical trials by providing advice and information and acting as the patients advocate.

Qualifications
Essential criteria
* RN with Current NMC Pin
* Diploma/Degree in Nursing
* Relevant post registration programme
* ENB 998 or professionally recognized equivalent teaching course
Desirable criteria
* GCP Certificate or willingness to be trained
Experience
Essential criteria
* Experience in delivering evidence based practice
* Experience of explaining complex concepts to patients in a clear and simplified manner
* Experience of acting as a patient advocate
* Previous experience in Clinical Research
Desirable criteria
* Experience working with Stroke patients
* Experience of formal/informal teaching of patients and staff
* Experience working as a preceptor/facilitator
* Previous experience in audit and evaluation
Skills
Essential criteria
* Well-developed clinical skills
* Competent use of relevant software specifically spreadsheets.

* Experience in ECG's and phlebotomy
