Responsibilities
* Design and deliver inclusive, high‑quality lessons.
* Create engaging learning materials tailored to diverse learner needs.
* Provide clear, constructive feedback to support learner progress.
* Guide academic and personal development through tutorials and pastoral care.
* Maintain accurate records of learner progress and engagement.
* Keep course content current and aligned with industry standards.
* Contribute to curriculum development and quality assurance processes.
* Work with colleagues and external partners to enrich the learner experience.
* Promote and uphold safeguarding, equality, and health and safety policies.
* Deliver engaging and industry‑relevant teaching in music performance and production courses (for the Music Lecturer).
* Plan and assess practical and theoretical music sessions and support student musical and professional development.
* Contribute to ensemble direction, performance projects, and music technology instruction.
* Maintain awareness of current industry practices and support students with coursework, assessments and progression.
* Participate in curriculum development and team meetings.
Qualifications
* A relevant subject qualification (e.g. degree or equivalent).
* A recognised teaching qualification.
* Level 2 English and Maths (e.g. GCSE grade C/4 or equivalent).
* The ability to plan and deliver effective, inclusive teaching for diverse learners.
* Knowledge of subject‑specific pedagogy and current teaching practices in further or higher education.
* Clear communication and strong organisational skills.
* Confidence using digital tools to support learning.
* A commitment to safeguarding, equality, and ongoing professional development.
* For the Music Lecturer: a degree in Music or a related subject, or equivalent professional experience; strong piano/keys performance ability; experience teaching or training in music; working knowledge of DAWs such as Logic, Ableton or Pro Tools; familiarity with recording studio environments; passion for developing young musicians.
Role Description – Music Lecturer, Performance Academy
The Performance Academy at Newcastle College is seeking an enthusiastic and knowledgeable Music Lecturer to join our team on a 0.6 FTE basis. The successful candidate will specialise primarily in piano/keys, though applications from musicians with other instrumental specialisms will also be considered. You will inspire students to develop both technically and creatively, deliver high‑quality teaching in music performance, plan and assess practical and theoretical sessions, support students’ musical and professional development, contribute to ensemble direction and performance projects, teach music technology and studio recording, and support students with coursework, assessments and progression.
