Application Specialist

Specialist focus: Timetabling and Further Education Student Records

£33,045 - £38,026 per annum

Full time/Permanent

With at least 2 days working on Campus per week.

We’re looking for a motivated and enthusiastic Application Specialist to join our team, with a focus on Timetabling and Further Education (FE) systems. This is a fantastic opportunity to work with some of the University’s most critical student-facing systems, helping to shape the digital experience of our learners.



About the Role

As an Application Specialist, you’ll play a key role in supporting and enhancing our corporate-wide systems. You’ll work closely with colleagues across Digital Technologies and the wider University to:

* Provide expert third-line technical support for core systems related to timetabling and FE student records.
* Analyse and implement system upgrades, regulatory changes, and maintenance activities through established change control processes.
* Collaborate with business users, suppliers, and product managers to identify opportunities for continuous improvement and deliver system enhancements.
* Support academic year lifecycle processes, such as timetable scheduling, yearly configuration and publication, student enrolment and supporting staff and students throughout the year, for the systems you’re responsible for.
* It is anticipated that this role will have a strong focus on Timetabling systems initially, and provide additional capability for our FE student records system.
* Line manage one team member whose focus is on FE systems.

You’ll be part of a supportive and fast-paced team where your work will have a direct impact on the smooth operation of student-focused services.


What We’re Looking For

* Having hands-on experience in timetabling systems is critical to this role, either from a technical or functional perspective (if your experience is functional, a strong interest in technology and gaining technical skills is important).
* Detail-oriented, with a solid understanding of data structures and the ability to analyse and resolve data integration issues.
* Proactive, organised, and comfortable working both independently and collaboratively.
* Confident working with multiple large, business-critical systems.
* Familiar with student lifecycle processes in further or higher education (desirable but not essential).
* Enthusiastic and keen to learnwe value potential.


Additional Information

* This role is based at our City Site, with a hybrid working model (minimum two days per week on campus).
* Occasional out-of-hours work may be required to support system maintenance.
