About the role
Balfour Beatty have an exciting opportunity for a Health and Safety Advisor to join our Southern, Western, Eastern and Signalling (SWES) business team in the south east .
The role will be based primarily from Three Bridges / Redhill but will require travel in support of our SWES business.
Role Purpose:
The Health and Safety Advisor will provide support and advice to the operational teams on all aspects of health and safety to ensure the SWES business is compliant with legal and company requirements and driving a safety culture of continual improvement.
What you'll be doing
As a Health and Safety Advisor, you will have the following accountabilities:
1. Fully understand and support delivery of UK HSES Strategy
2. Contribute to the implementation, delivery and review of the SBU Zero Harm Action Plan at business level
3. Support the delivery of the HSES Key Performance Indicators at project level
4. Provide expert support to investigate accidents, incidents and near miss events in accordance with Balfour Beatty Group Standards and BMS Requirements
5. Undertake programmed HS&E visits to provide support and advice to local project team and operatives
6. Produce formal reports using the Project Portal to record planned & unplanned H&S inspections which review project performance against the UK HSES Regulatory Framework & UK Business Management System (BMS) requirements
7. Promote Principles of Prevention and Hierarchy of Control
8. Deliver on-going approved HSES Technical Training to meet business unit requirements
9. Actively reserve proportionate time for HSES innovation & best practice research
10. Support project teams with the development & review of SSOW
11. Assist in the development of HSES Case Studies from signature projects

Who we're looking for
You will have the following:
13. Health, Safety Qualifications Attained, (or working towards) relevant NEBOSH Certificate, NCRQ, NVQ (Level 4 - 6 or comparable)
14. Ability to influence and promote a positive HSES culture
15. Competent in incident & accident investigation
16. Strong understanding of UK Health and Safety Regulatory Framework
17. Ability to prepare formal written reports on H&S topics
18. Demonstrate commitment to continual learning to refine, further develop and apply expertise to add distinctive value to customers and Balfour Beatty
19. Broad experience of construction and civils projects
20. Ability to engage and converse at all levels
The following qualities/experience are desirable:
21. Experience of working in the rail industry
22. Additional relevant skills and qualifications in any technical area
23. To have or be working toward Chartered Membership of IOSH (CMIOSH)
24. Recognised Internal Auditor qualification
25. Good understanding of CDM 2015 Roles and Responsibilities
