Consultant in Obstetrics (Maternal & Fetal Medicine)
This is a new consultant post in Maternal and Fetal Medicine to support increasing workload and career progression of current postholders. The post is suited to a highly motivated and enthusiastic individual who has completed their subspecialty training in maternal & fetal medicine. The successful applicant would join a team of 12 consultant Obstetricians (WTE).
Main duties of the job
This post covers antenatal, intrapartum and postnatal obstetric care with a particular focus on maternal & fetal medicine. Consultant presence is covered by 12 consultants (WTE) with resident cover for approximately 90 hours per week. There is separate consultant on call cover for gynaecology.
The successful candidate will also be responsible for leading maternity guideline development.
A candidate who is unable for personal reasons to undertake the duties of a whole-time post will receive equal consideration. If such a candidate is appointed, the job content will be modified as appropriate in consultation with consultant colleagues and local management

Qualifications
* Full GMC Registration
* Entry on the GMC Specialist Register Via; o CCT (Proposed CCT date must be within 6 months of the interview) o CESR or o European Community Rights
* PLAB or equivalent
* MRCOG or equivalent
* RCOG Certified accreditation in Subspecialty training in maternal & fetal medicine
Clinical Training and Experience
* Extensive obstetric experience able to perform all roles in the job description.
* Applicants who are Nationals from another European country or elsewhere overseas would have to show equivalence to the 7 years training period in the National Health Service required for the specialty.
* Training and expertise in children's safeguarding
* Experience in research or published papers in area of special interest
* Experience In obstetric training e.g. MOET or PPROMPT instructor
* Experience in risk management with demonstration of Root Cause analysis investigator experience.

* Exhibits and has references acknowledging ability and skills commensurate with experience stated above and should include skills in dealing with specific situations (e.g. handling Obstetric emergencies appropriately, counselling and treating upset patients and their relatives).
* Communication skills - to be clear, fluent and articulate in communication in English.

* Exhibits and has references confirming progressive acquisition of knowledge specific to career goals.
* Understands the importance of risk management, the audit cycle, and continuing education.
