What is the role?
Make a difference every day as a Relief Kitchen Assistant at Hafod.
Working alongside the Cook, you will support the preparation, cooking and serving of meals for residents, helping to ensure a high standard of food quality, hygiene and safety. Your role is essential in creating a positive dining experience and supporting residents’ wellbeing.
Please note: We’re unable to offer visa sponsorship for this role.
We’re offering PT/FT hours with a range of shift options, including long days, early, late and night shifts across weekdays and weekends. We’ll talk through your availability and what works for you, while making sure we cover the shifts the home needs to provide the best care for our residents.
Some of our homes may have limited public transport links, and some shifts start early or finish late. You’ll therefore need reliable transport to and from work.
What you’ll be doing
* Assist with preparing, cooking and serving meals and drinks.
* Support food safety compliance, including Control of Substances Hazardous to Health (COSHH) procedures are followed and Food Safety standards.
* Carry out general kitchen duties such as washing up, setting tables and cleaning.
* Report any equipment faults or concerns and work as part of a supportive team.
* Maintain high standards of cleanliness and hygiene in the kitchen and dining areas.

What you’ll bring
The Kitchen Assistant role is best suited to someone who is reliable, practical and team-focused, with a strong commitment to cleanliness, food hygiene and delivering a high-quality service.

Previous catering or kitchen experience is helpful but not essential. Training will be provided to support your development.

Plas y Garn Care Home provides accommodation for over 65s in Pontypool, Torfaen. We focus on giving a great quality of life to our residents, whatever their abilities and needs are. Our team of specially trained staff provide tailored care to all of our residents, including those who require EMI care and those with dementia.
