We are supporting a well-established UK-based engineering business specialising in bespoke automation solutions for automotive and industrial customers. The company designs and delivers custom automation systems, test benches, poka-yoke solutions, tooling, and production equipment, with project values ranging from £5k to £1m.
They are now looking to appoint a Business Development Manager to support continued growth across automotive, automation, and manufacturing sectors.
This is a commercially focused role, combining new business generation with close internal collaboration to turn customer requirements into technically sound, costed solutions.
Key Responsibilities
* Work closely with the internal sales team to develop and convert new business opportunities
* Identify and engage new customers across automotive, automation, and related engineering sectors
* Visit customer sites to understand requirements and build long-term relationships
* Collaborate with Project Managers and technical teams to evaluate customer needs
* Support the creation of costings, proposals, and quotations for bespoke automation projects
* Manage opportunities from initial enquiry through to order placement
* Represent the business professionally with OEMs, Tier 1 suppliers, partners, and end customers
Ideal Candidate Profile
* Proven background in business development, technical sales, or account management
* Experience selling into automotive, automation, manufacturing, or engineering environments
* Comfortable discussing technical requirements and translating them into commercial solutions
* Strong relationship-building skills with customers at all levels
* Confident managing both small and large-value projects (£5k–£1m)
* Willingness to travel across the UK for customer meetings
* Commercially driven, organised, and able to work cross-functionally
Location & Working Pattern
* Based in the West Midlands
* 1–2 days on site, remainder flexible
* UK travel required for customer visits
